I don't understand how Republicans be against legalizing weed and against gun control at the same time.
Imagine what would happen if guns were outlawed in US. It would take guns away from responsible citizens, criminals would still get their illegal guns, there would be more gun trafficking, a lot more gun related gang crime etc. It's all bad shit, right? So why is making weed illegal a good thing? Making it illegal isn't making people smoke less weed. The majority of US population has tried weed at least once. Making it illegal doesn't work. However, I support growing hemp and stuff for paper, clothes and stuff. Marijuana as a result, I wouldn't have a problem with, providing it was taxed and regulated like alcohol.
Although, that said, I read a thingy which stated about why it's actually more profitable for the powers that be to keep it illegal. It was an interesting read, but I can't remember most of it and as I'm not in the US, I can't verify its accuracy.

Illegal weed makes it very easy to arrest people. Just look at celebrities. They publicly smoke weed without giving a shit. If they start criticising the government it would be so easy to arrest them for possession of weed.
There are a lot of reasons why it's beneficial to the state. Taxes need to be raised to pay for all the police and prisons, which in turn gives people in power more power and more money.
Weed smokers are losers, but they're harmless. If we legalized weed worldwide and didn't even regulate it then not a single person would die from cannabis overdose or go on a weed induced killing spree. There's absolutely nothing scary about someone smoking a joint.
