I have 9 months of food and water stored in a shed in my backyard, for a family of 4. That's without rationing. Other essential equipment like stoves, lights, toilet paper, fuel, generator, ect. 9,000 rounds of various ammunition, 23 firearms. Communication equipment.
Physically fit. Multiple books and classes on survival, planning and self defense. Go camping every month, testing out new supplies.

I live in Southern California. I'm worried in the event of a true HAPPENING, the social breakdown will be deadly. I would rather bug in, and that's what I'm most prepared for, but I have a travel trailer and a suburban I can load up with supplies and go up to the mountains of I have to bug out.

it will be deadly and bugging in is a very good idea if you have the supplies and could ride out the initial chaos and die off within 3 months if things got really bad. The only problem with bugging in is that someone eventually will likely enter your house or apartment. The best way to combat this is to use the front room entry way as a dump for waste etc or allow something dead to rot there. Yes it's gross as fuck but some vicks vapo rub on the nostrils or better on cotton balls in your nostrils will help you stand the smell and if you could survive the first 3 months most people would be dead.

Every situation is unique and requires a decision as such. Many variables are involved including how and what you have prepared and how big a SHTF scenario it is.
If you do decide to leave, expect the main highways to become clogged very quickly. Have alternate routes to your bug out location planned out in advance. Do not leave unless you already have a place and route planned in advance unless you have no other choice.

I would advise against this strategy.
Imagine war breaks out between Russia and NATO and Russia decides they don't want to directly fry millions of civilians. Instead they detonate nukes in the atmosphere above the USA high enough to not do any physical damage but to cause an EMP effect that would knock out the power grid permanently (10+ years) potentially across the entire US.
Distribution would come to a halt and with all grocery stores empty everyone would come up with the idea to hunt for food all at once.
The wildlife would be gone in a month and you would be starving.
