Japan has been really perverted since they started trying to modernize (we didn't nuke them into degeneracy). Their culture assumed perversion was a natural part of industrialization in urban environments and just accepted it, which is reflected by their media over time. Mechs are a failure in concept for the little amount of armor and the high vulnerability in the complex machinery behind it. They are doomed to be a failed concept until there is a whole new metal that we have no way of getting through and we would need to create mobility systems that would allow them to be comparable to real tanks and even then a real tank would just be better because while you lack vertical movement that a mech would have you get more armor and a stronger armament platform for a much cheaper to produce package.
TLDR
Too much of an attempt at mobility (which would not be all that high tbqh) for a lack of firepower and armor.
