Honestly, trump is being too transparent with this. It's obvious that he just wants bernie to run indie so that he'll split the liberal voting block.
He should be more subtle about it. Show sympathy toward's bernie's plight and how the establishment screwed him over, and then focus on the areas where bernie and trump are similar in an effort to either get bernie voters to go for trump or at least stay home and not vote for hillary. Bernie is too much of a cuck to go independent.

No: Bernie Sanders is very much a threat to a Trump. Unlike Trump, he's an outsider without much media controversy for the statements he's given, and would most likely win the general were the system not fixed in Hillary's favor.
Nevertheless, many young Bernie supporters would move en masse to Trump or a third party, leaving very few to Hillary.
