They were generally revolutionaries who had the balls to revolt against a system they saw as corrupt. There was no poverty during Socialism and there was no unemployment and much less crime. Unemployment, welfare, crime is now. There's literally no breeding ground for crime or unemployment during Socialism, since you get any job you apply for, you go through Socialistic training and you get more or less same salary as everybody else. You have one bank that is controlled by financial institution and there is no plastic money or allowance to carry money over the border, so literally no possibility of financial crime.

It came and it's growing, since one other thing that is missing now is border guards and Socialistic police patrolling. You couldn't simply make noise on the streets at night during Socialism, you couldn't form street groups. During Socialism people were often stopped by police if they were drunk in group at night. There was no chance for a junkies or gangs to stick around and make noise. Now, you have to pay lawyer, sue people if they steal from you or some junkies get high and destroy property, things aren't solved by itself. You have to pay for everything, justice isn't free. Same could be said by products, they can sell over the expiration date products, if nobody reports them, then they will continue to do so. People try to force capitalistic thinking into Socialistic thinking, it's two very different things.
