The huns invaded europe from the east, forcing several barbaric tribes to migrate into the Roman lands, several barbarian invasions later the country was broken in half and desperate to save whatever land it still had, when Rome fell to the barbarians the empire had officially fallen, whatever castle or stonghold that existed then became a feud of it's own in charge of it's own defense, the people vowed servitude to the feuds to live under the protection of the feudal lord in exchange for their servitude.
