Any Rusbros wanna clarify this for me? So I've been curious about Russian mafias
>are they prevalent in daily russian life
>Is the government really run by the mafia

Aren't the mafia part of the government as well? Don't people call Putin and Russia a Mafia state?
>>
>>72456435
I couldnt tell you, its about as likley as the "CIA are drug dealers" conspiracy..... Cant confirm or deny but sounds unlikley
>>
>>72456204
i support what they do, but russians sure do love to brutalize other people

There is difference between mainstream organised crime and thieves-in-law, what people see as the "Russian Mob" is often the latter
>>
>>72457761
Are thieves in law people like Putin wielding legitimate political power while organized crime local enforcement?
>>

>are they prevalent in daily russian life
Might as well not exist unless you are running an underground casino or something.

>Is the government really run by the mafia
No, unless you use the term "mafia" very loosely.
>>

When the USSR was dying and the black market was booming a lot of high profile rich figures now may or may not have used help from organized crime in making deals etc.

You're not gonna run into mafia unless you own a business or something. Which I don't, so I have no idea what to tell you. My guess is these days you'll probably have to deal with a corrupt government official who will pressure you into a bribe instead of some mafia guys taking your money for protection. The only thing an average citizen should be afraid of is getting mugged in a dark alley by random gopniks. Personally that happened to me once in the 90s and it happened to my brother in 00's, that's about all I know about crime in Russia.

Russian mob as we know it were bydlo thugs in 90's that are either long gone or became legit businessmen. Look for a TV series called Brigada.

no
>Is the government really run by the mafia
yes. From top to bottom, starting with putin and his ministers.
>>
>>72456435
Mafia became oligarchs, and Putin fought those oligarchs in 00s. Some he defeated, some fled the country, some pledged their allegiance to Putin. So yeah, some of those ex-mafia oligarchs are working with the government these days. And of course the government uses those olygarchs to do some shady stuff now and again. So really, the mafia problem in Russia transformed into the corruption problem.

wow, thats pretty nutty and damning....helping drug smugglers in the intrest of fighting a proxy war, doesnt sound beyond our government.... I just dont understand why they wouldn't directly fund them, instead of helping them to sell drugs.... Where they that worried about a paper trail? or do they support narco-terroism ie. using drugs to destroy a rival nation or group of people by facilitating drug smuggling
