vacant homes is meaningless. they could all be 2000 sqft homes or mansions, but there is no information. of course a mansion is going to be vacant -- it's a waste of money that nobody is going to pay for.

No one who has ever made more than 50k a year will agree with this.

Only poor people or people who grew up dirt poor think capitalism is evil and blame it for their problems.

>868 million people go hungry
Blame that on the warlords that steal any supplies and money that gets sent to starving areas, primarily Africa. It's not our fault that they can't take advantage of any of the help given to them and establish a way to feed their populations.
>There are 5 vacant homes for every homeless person
How many of those houses are sick buildings, structurally unsafe, in dangerous areas, etc? How many of them are currently on the market and will sell eventually?
>77.5% of US Households are in debt
They took out a mortgage they agreed to with the bank and are paying back their debts steadily every months. They agreed to go into debt in order to own a home. The vast majority of home owners can pay their debt back easily, assuming they didn't buy a house they couldn't afford.
>1 in 7 US Residents is being pursued by a debt collector
I doubt the number is even that high, but assuming it is then why don't people pay back their debts? Or better yet, don't go into debt by buying things you can't afford. You don't need a brand new iPhone just because a commercial tells you you do.
>Capitalism doesn't work
Without Capitalism, you would be living with 1800's technology at best. Competition breeds creation, without competition technology stagnates.

Capitalism works for 85% of the people, provided we eventually level out all living standards and wages among the world (something capitalism will inevitably achieve eventually).

The problem is what do we do with the remaining 15%.

Is anyone even implying that capitalism is anywhere near perfect? Capitalism has horrible consequences, which a government can sometimes fix. I look forward to seeing a superior alternative to capitalism, but as of today i believe it is by far the best working system. I have a lot of non-capitalistic utopia's in my head, but they aren't realistic. They wouldn't work, and we definetly couldn't transition to them in a clean way.

Capitalism without fractional reserve banking and with a small government intervening only for moral reasons would be a pretty damn good society, imho.
For example, a government is "needed" to decentivize planned obsolescence. Or to intervene when a market grows towards a monopoly.
>>
>>72453426

Redistribution needs abundance first. The best way of getting an abundance of goods and services is through the free market, where the creative processes of the individual are unhampered. We currently don't have a global free market, but in spite of that, I think the poorest people of today are much better than the poor people of 100 years ago.

the free market works, wealth inheritance does not.

If every person started as tabula rasa person with the state paying for education, capitalism would work. But our society is built on inherited wealth and that fucks everything up.

America is not a capitalist country. It's a heavily regulated mixed-economy with aspects of society already being socialized through government programs.

It's not a democracy or republic either, but an oligarchy.
>>
>>72456335

We also have fractional reserve banking... Although if we get rid of the jew, we should be able to get rid of fractional reserve banking as well. So at least this is sort of realistic.

That doesn't mean it's non capitalist lad. Unless you have a stupidly broad definition of socialism, our economy is like 99% capitalistic.

Capitalism does work for those who are not lazy and actually participate by working.

Capitalism does work if you have people who act altruistically when they run a business and keep a moderate profit to protect in the lean times.

But since humans are inherently lazy and greedy the system gets warped, also government intervention doesn't help.

Though overall I would prefer capitalism over socialism/communism as capitalism did not kill millions (9 million alone in the bolshevik revolution alone) of people because of an ideology.
>>
>>72453426
>Blame capitalism for problems government created

>>
>Global agricultural production can feed everyone but people starve
Market distortion

>Vacant homes but people are homeless
Market distortion

>77.5% households are in debt
Market distortion

Govenment created market distortion doesn't work
>>
>>72453426
The problems with homelessness are generally due to medical issues or instability in the home.

Hunger is poverty and civil war, followed by distribution methods being fairly difficult to perfect.
>>
>>72454564
>Some countries instituted rule of law, low corruption, and strong property rights
>Some countries did not do these things

>The countries that decided to civilize are to blame for countries that did not

If every country in the world established property rights and a respect for law the world would be better off. Trade benefits every country that takes part in it, and would raise output across the world.

There's literally no reason first world countries would try to stop developing countries from civilizing. Take a few economics classes.
>>
>>72453426
>food 1.18 tiems the global population
>x people go hungry
That has nothing to do with capitalism, and you could only claim it does if we had a world government, which we don't.
This has to do with international relations.

Just because there are vacant houses doesn't mean capitalism is bad, it means that we have room to expand.

Debt isn't government caused. It's primarily caused by the debtee, and they are bad at financing. In capitalism financial stress it created by and put on the individual, meaning those who are competent can survive. Communism takes the freedom of finance away, and puts financial stress equally on the citizens of the state. This may sound good, but the problem is competent people are directly weighed down by the incompetent, and it reduces our freedom and autonomy.

Plus, the U.S. is already really socialist. We can see that in programs such as public schooling, welfare, and the concept of tax itself.
