Thoughts on Harrison Bergeron?
>>
I've encountered maybe 3 people on nu/pol/ who've actually read it. There's not enough e/b/in memes in it to hold the attention span of most of the cucks on nu/pol/.

We will not do your homework for you.

But it's really short
>>

Again, not enough memes (or "memeable content") in it to hold nu/pol/'s interest.
>>
>>72399737
It's a harsh critique of Post-Modern philosophy and if you want a nice analysis, I suggest you real Steven Pinker's break down at the end of The Blank Slate, it's well done.
>>
I've heard some say that rather than being a critique of the "make everyone equal" race to the bottom, it is actually a hyperbolic representation meant to satirize the point it appears to make. Frankly I think this is ludicrous. That many layers of irony weren't even possible in written language until at least the mid 2000's

> freedom is the recognition of necessity
>>
>>72400500
No, that point is right. At the time this was written, the idea that SJW cucks would try to PC police us into equality was unheard of. He was making a point that the opponents of egalitarianism were ridiculous. It just happens to be that he was wrong, and now we have a story that appears to satirize our modern "progressive" culture. But that's just my two cents.

intended as satire but accidentally became a terrifying prophecy of things to come

go here and fucking read it then

Here's the problem with that analysis. I can apply similar reasoning to Farenheit 451 and claim that it is a denunciation of anti-totalitarianist rhetoric. In fact we we can turn any piece of satirical writing on its head in this manner. Our meme-age reasoning is not suited for works from such a simpler time.

We read this freshman year of high school. We also read Fahrenheit 451 and Brave New World. I think our teachers we're trying to redpill us. God bless Catholic schools.

the joke is that people are not really equal even now, this writes a slavic subhuman toilet licking potato eating nigger subhuman cattle monkey

Vonnegut was an avowed socialist, though. This story makes no sense when written by someone of his stated views except as a satire on the overblown fears of his political opponents.

Of course, at the time, people actually wanting the kind of society portrayed in Harrison Bergeron was absurd. No one would ever want that, it wasn't even an exaggeration of what someone could ever want. But now we have people who are actually in favor of what is essentially a watered down version of this society.

>Vonnegut was an avowed socialist, though.

So was Orwell, and he called his fictional totalitarian system "Ingsoc" for "English socialism".
>>
>>72401976
Orwell was something of a socialist but at the same time he absolutely despised the Soviet Union, which is what 1984 was meant to represent.

In case anyone wants to read it:

The author claims it was meant to mock people who believed that government enforced equality would lead to handicaps and penalties to people deemed too successful, but, you know, death of the author.

God damn it feels good for post modernism to be working in my favor for once.

>The author claims it was meant to mock people who believed that government enforced equality would lead to handicaps and penalties to people deemed too successful

in a sane world it would have

it's a shame that these days it simply rings true
>>

Don't make me report you to the handicapper general, you elitist fuck.
>>
>>72402513
Source for this? I've heard it said before but I've never seen the full quote in context.
>>
>>72401246

Fahrenheit 451 was not intended to be a book about governmental censorship or totalitarianism, but about the dangers of watching TV instead of reading.

It's the SJW wetdreams, and our future if we don't stop the left once and for all

My favorite short story. Predicted what would happen to our society.

Come to think of it, the Wikipedia citation goes to one of those scam answer sites with the claim coming from a high school english teacher. Could it be that this claim was never actually made?

It's a fantastic message and I hope they continue to teach it I'm American schools, but modern facism is much more subtle. I'm not sure kids today identify with the message.

It's a great story, funny how all these dystopian fantasies start to become real as the left becomes the mainstream.
