"Whether the issue is trade, immigration or foreign policy, says Trump, “we are putting the American people first again.” U.S. policy will be dictated by U.S.

Honest to God, this is too good to be true. I remember bitching on /pol/ a year ago about how none of the republicns were really against free trade or immigration then Trump comes along and goes full nationalist. Its ike meme magic is real.

If product "X" is made in the USA at one dollar.. but China can do it for 98 cent after transportation costs.. you save 2 cents.. but NOBODY in the USA can get a job... it's better to make it right here in the USA for a full dollar, and then when everyone here has a job, prices will drop even lower than 98 cent AND everyone will have a job.

Only 2 billionaires ever ran for POTUS.. and they both said the same thing about this.

If it's not being made in the U.S. that's because it's cheaper to make it somewhere else, which means that they can offer a lower price. If you force someone to make it in the U.S., you're forcing the thing to be more expensive.

>>72391679
That makes no fucking sense. If it costs $1 to make here, and $0.98 + $0.02 to make in China, why would it be made in China? No business is that stupid.

It's made in China because it cost $0.95 which means that it's 5 cents cheaper.

you're the same sort of idiot who thinks we can make minimum wage $15 and it won't make prices go up right?
>>
>>72391910
Literally name a single economist who thinks that less trade means cheaper prices.

Why does supply and demand and basic economics stop at imaginary lines?
>>
>>72392158
No... it cost 98 cent INCLUDING transportation.. go watch shark tank... investors told people to go fuck themselves because they refused to save a penny by making it in China.
>>
>>72391980
How will making things more expensive stop that? All that's going to happen is that prices will go up, AND rich people will have tax havens.

Trump has not made a single promise about stopping tax evasion. If he was serious, he'd talk about stopping companies from going to the Caymans, not Mexico. (But he has so many companies there, he'd never dare)

Hey retard you do realize that the only reason you aren't a slave for the elite is because of the greatest generation right? Your grandparents/great-grandparents got the GI bill, went to university and their education enabled the post-war economic boom.

>>
>>72391679
>he thinks cost to manufacture in China equals the US after transportation

If China, or other countries weren't cheaper to manufacture in, a lot of industries would have stayed in the US.

Importing good thanks to free trade usually means cheaper goods, do you really think buying fruits and vegetables from Africa is going to equal the US after transportation cost? Of course they don't, they will be way cheaper. But of course imported goods means lost jobs in America.

You basically have to weigh the pro and cons of free trade. You can make the argument that it's better to import some type of goods and then keep some type of goods to keep the jobs associated with producing those goods.

But the answer isn't "Fuck all free trade" or "Fuck all protectionism".
>>
>>72393924

The US was built on a wall of tariffs. Ever since Reagan cucked the country the industrial base has been carted off to the third world.

Everyone knew free trade was bad in the 19th century. Britain advocated free trade because we were the first country to industrialise, and we wanted open access to underdeveloped markets, to undercut them and ensure we remained superior. If the US had never enacted tariffs your economy would've been gobbled up by Britain, Spain and France.

>>72391679
The issue is that with free trade you are exporting jobs, and when you export jobs, over the long run you are exporting purchasing power. In the short run it seems to be a good deal, thugs are cheaper to buy. What we are seeing now is that over decades, we are now paying the price, 90 million able bodied Americans are not working and have no prospects. This is starting to have a serious impact on economic growth. No money here to buy stuff means you have literally shot yourself in the foot. Many problems we are facing are signs of this, middle age white suicide, drug use increases, lower wages, etc...

There is a balance. Should we charge a tariff on everything, no, not at all. Some items will be better produced somewhere else. However, should we allow China to build the hulls of our warships? No. Should we allow the import of H1B workers when we have a surplus here of skilled IT workers (don't tell me there is not, they are being laid off)? No.

The concept of globalism that was idealistic was that we would raise the purchasing power of the world, which would be great for business. The problem is, China steals our designs and now sells as the lowest cost producer, locking our higher cost goods out of new markets. Has it improved conditions in the third world, yes, has it fucked America, mostly - the low and middle class yes, the rich, hell no.
>>
>>72395514

And, it lowers white birthrates. 100 IQ white men can support a family in their 20s in some shitty mall job. They could on a factory job.

There is no point to capitalism if it leads to racial suicide.
>>
>>72384869

>>72394986
>he fell for the free trade meme
Consider that the "efficiency" gained by importing all of our manufactured goods benefits Asian workers and American capitalists at the expense of American workers.
>>
>>72393062
This is right, but there was a wrench thrown into it, a short term one however, We made the price go down with constant or growing demand by moving production to a much lower cost area. This is what fueled the 90/00 consumer boom. Now it is catching up to us as our incomes stagnate we are losing buying power versus 2000. Will there be an equilibrium, yes at some point - the big question is what will the middle class in the US look like at that equilibrium. I estimate we will be close to the buying power of something like an Italian (generalized over the entire population of course).
>>
>>72393924

why do you want to waste American work hours to do repetitive manual tasks all day? they are needed in other lines of work

and why do you oppose outsourcing environmentally toxic manufacturing?
>>
>>72393615
Allow me to explain since he can't go two breaths without an ellipsis. When you move labor abroad, you deny the domestic market the income it needs to actually buy your products, resulting in underconsumption. In order to sell off the resulting suplus you have to sell for less than the "cheaper" manufacturing cost. This kills the economy. This is the situation we are in now.

Domestic manufacturing empowers the market to actually buy your products, which does drive up prices due to demand, but not beyond the buyers' purchasing power.

Tldr offshoring decreases the demand you're trying to meet, resulting in overinvestment

Captcha is storefronts, Google agrees
