So I've been thinking about how will the Mexicans will pay for the Great Wall, I know it's extremely naive to think that the Mexican Government will be willing to spend their own resources BUT what about using US monetary aid to Mexico to pay for the wall?

Isn't that effectively making the Mexicans pay for the Great Wall?
>>
>>72327266
Much simpler: Tax goods imported from mexico until wall is paid for.

This solves another problem of companies moving their jobs to mexico but wanting all the benefits of doing business in the lucrative US market.
>>
>>72327266
>>72327406
I think Trump is actually going for both of these
>>
That is exactly Trumps plan: use mexicos annual remittances to pay for it. Mexico will have no say in the matter, we don't need Mexico to write us a check - we'll just deduct the cost from the money we give them every month
>>
>>72327406

Never heard of NAFTA across the pond.

> Protip: Like so many Trumpisms, this is illegal from multiple laws that the President can't just wish away.
>>
>>72327406
Yeah I thought about this too. Would be pretty effective in achieving two goals at the same time.
>>
>>72327707
Part of Trump's campaign has included repealing NAFTA, which has decimated Mexico's employment, which is another reason they jump the border

Goodbye America, Hello China and Russia

The two giants are already making alot of progress with Mexico, and they don't have the kind of tension between them like we do.

If it trump won, Mexico would probably enter a deep depression and perhaps civil war for about a decade, and then they'd be propped up by China and be a puppet state, possibly stronger and more peacefull than ever.

I doubt the U.S. would want that.
Look at what is happening in Africa.
As soon as you lose interest or alienate a resource rich territory, others will jump in and do things right by force.
>>
>>72327707
Trump could just ignore NAFTA rules and do it anyways. What really could Mexico do about it? Boo-hoo, USA broke the treaty, declare war? Not a chance. Mexico will deal, Trump will set the terms and conditions, and that will be how it goes.
>>
>>72328202
They'll just trade with the ruskies and chinks and the ruskies and chinks will set up bases in mexico.

>b-but my monroe doctrine muh defense agreements muh rules muh laws, chinks cant do that!

If America breaks the rules, so will everybody else.

No chance NAFTA will get repealed. Look at all the other trade deals that have come down the line since. We the People have zero say in the matter and I suspect an anti-globalist President won't either.

>>72328202

It's not Mexico that he'd have to ignore, it's the thousands of US companies that now rely on NAFTA for profitable operations. Also the President can't just ignore the law (any law) for very long unless he likes being impeached.
>>
>>72328472
>being this delusional
Wow
>>
>>72327266

The US government could just start taking possession of all cash transfers from illegals back to Mexico, and pay hit the wall in one day.
>>
>>72328472
You're a fucking retard.
Mexico is American clay.
Ukraine is Russian clay.
Tibet is Chinese clay.
>>
>>72327266
It's as simple as this.
Force trade restrictions on the mexican gov until they take out a massive loan from the imf to pay for the wall.
The problem is that the Imf is basically ran off the backs of the american taxpayers already.
So even when mexico does pay for the wall.. The americans will still be paying for it
>>
>>72327707

The USA can literally do whatever it wants. We write the laws. We aren't beholden to other countries, they are beholden to us.

>hurr trump can do what he wants and bypass and veto any law or bill and completely ignore congress and the courts and not grt impeached day one

Pls
>>
>>72327266
all we have to do is enforce the law and the wall is paid for, effectively by spics
>>
>>72328990
then again all we have to do is enforce the law and we won't even need to build a wall

The president has the power to impose a tariff or import quotas etc. without congress.
>>
>>72327266
Pro tip: they will never pay for a fucking wall.
>>
>>72328732
No. Tariffs are increased to pay off the wall.
>>
>>72327266
That's the plan.

>>72327266
I'll be a slave for our Lord Trump
>>

Pro tip: yes they will
>>
>>72327266
Mexicans are entirely dependant on trade through NAFTA.

The US is not.

If they cut them off for a month, their economy would collapse.

or you could just fix your country

He's already said how he's going to make them pay for it. Read the position paper on his website.

US could just slap a tax on remittance payments and the wall would be paid for.
>>
>>72327266

Why would we keep sending them monetary aid if they won't pay for the wall? Stop doing your mental gymnastics aussiefag.
>>
>>72327707

NAFTA has been nothing but bad news for Mexico. Why wouldn't they want to repeal it?
>>
>>72331359
If NAFTA has been awful for all the countries involved, why keep it?
