If we had held ourselves after the civil war to the same standards the international community holds weaker states today, then reparations would likely have been given out a long time ago. It could be that a truth and reconciliation commission is what we need to finally move on from that period of our history.

In the real world, there are legitimate concerns of systemic discrimination in the criminal justice system and institutional discrimination in many of our other social institutions.
