I was home schooled. It in truly mustard race. I can't imagine what the fuck students are doing 8 hours a day. I pretty much taught myself past 4th grade, I'd just read and shit, whatever I was interested in. My parents made me take college algebra before letting me take the ged but other than that it was hands off. Even self taught I'd be done after 2 or 3 hours and then I'd play alpha centauri, starcraft, or innawoods the rest of the day. I mean it's one thing if the others were smarter than me but I was ahead of everyone despite spending 1/3 as much time doing 'classwork'. I only went to a state uni so I'm not pretending to be some super genius, I'm pretty much the embodiment of smart but lazy, but I've met people who struggled with CC. I actually wrote papers for these dumbasses in exchange for booze or weed. I'd spend all of 2 hours on a 3 page paper and they'd give me a $20ish equivalent.

One thing to note about education in the United States is the late seventies the Department Of Education was created. The second thing is that the USA specifically had schools called "normal" schools that were focused on producing teachers or teacher colleges in other words. Almost all colleges today are general education centers as that's most profitable due to taxpayer funded education. If you wanted a computer science degree you went to a place like Univeristy of Illinois and others (technical/ag college etc). The DoE that Carter put in place makes billions of dollars off subsidizing these college loans. Colleges now besides being watered down general education camps are more likely than not to be investment vehicles to launder taxpayer subsidies through to the private sector through investments.
I'd also note that due to this and the current trend of indoctrination of the youth all the through college to communist/socialist ideals always happen in youth. You will never see someone who is or was a conservative or libertarian say they have changed their view and now are socialist or communist. In fact it's always the other way around typically.
