Well take a look around you. All the manufacturing jobs are leaving, shipped off to china. Yes, as a small business owner I can bring in cheap products from China and resell them at a higher profit. But it also scares the piss out of me. Because there are NO american made versions of the same products I want...anywhere.
Take something as simple as glass. You can't get american made glass anymore. Even 10 years ago I had multiple suppliers in the US. If one had production issues, I called another. Now it all comes from China. When there is a production problem in China, every reseller in the US feels the problem down the line. So I might still have 3 US companies where I can get glass, but they all import it, and when one can't deliver...they all can't.
Watching US manufacturing die is frightening as fuck. We consume, but we no longer make. And Nafta and other trade agreements, while they made it possible for us to get cheap goods imported from China...didn't write in reciprocal agreements that would be good for the US in turn.
