However, the European wars and especially the war with France exhausted those riches and the golden age eventually ended.

Spanish colonies didn't trade. They asset striped the Aztecs, the Incas, etc. by using pre-existing systems of indentured servitude.
By having a monopoly on International trade (in order to prevent a merchant class rising up and demanding quality property rights from the King), they fell into a vicious circle of extracting wealth via servitude instead of creating wealth via free trade.
It's the same story all over the world. The Southern US states used slave labour to resist industrializing, which was an extractive practice and meant that modern agricultural practices weren't adopted. Today the south is poor AF.
Eastern Europe after the black death doubled-down on feudal serfdom to make up for the loss of labour; plebs owned 2-3x as much time to their local lord than pre-plauge.
