With the tax loopholes, the taxes on the top earners has been effectively zero or something close to it.
With 25% and the loopholes closed, we'll have a tax rate comparable to third world countries but infrastructure of a first world nation. At that point, we'll finally be able to really evaluate what we can do with the kind of money the left says is more than the bottom half of the country combined.

I don't know as nearly everyone's tax/spending plans seem pointless to a degree. The military and social benefits take most of the budget, so one of those has to be drastically reduced imo, which no one really wants to do for political reasons. I think you're giving him too much credit, it's not like the government stands between you and every transaction you make. They just tax you later depending on how much of it you seem to have in your pile, or that you seem to have moved around in a certain way. You're always going to be able to juggle your money and legal status around to achieve optimal results, and if you make enough money to warrant it you can just pay someone to organize this for you.
There's a limit to what you can actually do to stop this, or what is even worth doing. The only concrete things I can think of that Trump has said are increasing tariffs to stop people from headquartering outside of the country/outsourcing for labor and something to do with the bankruptcy laws he abused earlier in his career.

Under normal circumstances, yes it would be a bad idea to cut taxes for the rich. But you have to understand America's personal situation right now. Over the years the taxes on the rich have gotten higher and higher and the same goes for businesses. The tax rates need to be lowered so that we can pull in more wealthy people/business owners to pay the taxes in the first place and provide jobs. Arguably by having a higher quantity of wealthy paying a lower tax rate we would profit more.
It won't be right away but this is the first step to restarting American manufacturing and building our exports.

Real talk, as an economist:
I think Ted's plan is better in many regards (I do favour flat tax in general).
Trump's plan, on the basics, is not bad though. It won't impact lower incomes as much as Ted's and it does close more loopholes.
However, Trump is simply stating too low a tax. It would be flat out impossible to implement this without either going bankrupt within a decade or cutting expenditure by 20-30%, which is not really politically possible and goes against other promises by Trump.
So I would be ok with it IF he increased the tax rates by 3-4% and reduced the non-taxable cap at 20k/30k (for married couples). That would probably get closer to being revenue neutral (aka after the changes, the state gets about as much money as it does now).
