China strengthens terrorism battle

CHINA is strengthening cooperation with other countries to prevent homegrown terrorists from going to Syria and Afghanistan to join Islamic State and coming back with enhanced terrorist skills

Xing Guangcheng, director of the Institute of Chinese Borderland Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, told the Australian Institute of International Affairs that terrorists from China, many of them from the northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, were testing different routes of going abroad.

One used frequently in recent years runs from Xinjiang to China’s southern provinces, to Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia, and then through Turkey to Iraq and Syria.

When they are stopped either in China or in Southeast Asian countries and realize they may never make it to their desired destination, they very likely choose to make some desperate gestures and “do something big locally,” Xing said.

Xing said China worries about the radicalization of local youth and is even more concerned with those who travel to the Middle East for terrorist training and come back to threaten security at home.

The entire international community is facing the threat of terrorism, Xing said. That’s why China is cooperating with many other powers, including Russia, the European Union and the United States, in combating terrorism.

FSA/Islamic Front and SDF have been at war since 2014.

The argument for attacking the SDF is "to secure the supply line to Marea". Likely it's the Turkish leadership that controls them that ordered them to mount this attack.

Virginia state senator travels to Syria, praises Assad

The official Syrian news agency says a conservative Virginia state senator is touring the war-torn country and meeting with officials from Syrian President Bashar Assad's government.

Loudoun County Republican Sen. Dick Black arrived in Syria on Tuesday for a three-day visit.

President Barack Obama and other U.S. officials have repeatedly said Assad has lost his legitimacy to rule the country, but Black has praised Assad, saying he has protected Christians in Syria and fought against terrorist groups.

The Syrian Arab News Agency erroneously reported that Black is a U.S. senator. Black is a state representative who has no role in official U.S. foreign policy.

The outspoken socially conservative senator sent a letter praising Assad in 2014 that was posted on the Syrian president's Facebook page.

I think you underestimate how many resources Iran has invested into Syria and how important it is to their security policy. If Iran were to escalate the situation, they would do so by deploying their regular army (not just militias/Quds) to Syria, something they have repeatedly brought up as a last resort measure to protect the Syrian government.

You shouldn't brush this kind of statement off that easily.
>>
>>72245931
>How is this allowed?
Because the Syrian government in practice just doesnt have jurisdiction in most Kurdish-held areas

Under international law its of course technically illegal for the Americans to be in Syria in the first place

Tiger Forces seize mountains in northeastern Palmyra: Video

The Syrian Arab Army’s “Tiger Forces” – backed by the National Defense Forces (NDF) – liberated 3 hilltops near the Mistudura Gas Fields after a violent battle with the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) on Tuesday night. As a result of this advance near the Mistudura Gas Fields, the Syrian Armed Forces are now within 10 km of ‘Arak’s northern axis, which means that ISIS is on the verge of being flanked. More importantly, the Syrian Armed Forces are quickly advancing east towards the T-3 Military Airport and the oil rich town of Al-Sukhanah.

Iran would never randomly start a war like that. If the US military policy ever shifts to attacking Syrian government forces however, through deployment of their regular army they can force the US to choose between abandoning that strategy and becoming involved in another major protracted middle eastern conflict against a much stronger foe this time, supported by the Russians. Iran considers US military deployments on Syrian territory as a sign that it's not going to give up on regime change in Syria, which is of course an act of aggression not just against Syria but also against Iranian interests in their eyes.

On another note, the Syrian Kurds are by no means immune to the type of internal tampering Iran is so good at. The SDF currently has control over many Arab villages and has thousands of Arab fighters within its ranks. Then there's the rivalry between the two main Syrian Kurdish political parties. It doesn't take much to break it all up, especially if the common ISIS enemy is out of the picture.

So what do you expect to happen? The US will be asked to leave? And will they actually listen to Iran?

The problem is that they claim to only be there to fight Isis. And because they're in kurd held land, they will use that as a shield from any actions from Iran, or cause much more conflict.

I see only two possibilities here. Either Iran will back off, or there will be military action.

>Iran will kill american special forces working with kurds if they don't leave
>Implying US ever respected international laws

I would be very surprised if Iran had the guts to attempt this.

I'd be even more surprised if our government backed off afterwards. That would show weakness.

What will happen is a race towards the major cities still under control of ISIS. The US wants the SDF in control of Deir Ezzor, Raqqa, Al-Bab, Manbij, etc. whereas Iran would like to see the Syrian government in control of these cities. Iran has deployed several aircraft to Syria recently and is deploying more Quds&Shia militia personnel, whereas the US is deploying more special forces.

What's important is mostly what happens after ISIS is destroyed, which is a matter of time. The idea behind the Iranian military openly deploying its army in Syria is as a guarantee that the US will not attack Syrian government territory or be faced with a war with Iran. This war would be an extremely unpopular middle eastern adventure that could easily trump the Iraqi and Afghani adventures combined in scale. Assuming the American government isn't stupid enough to embark on this, Iran will move on to destabilize the SDF-held area by inciting tensions between the various Kurdish factions and the Arab-Kurdish alliance in the SDF. It will weaken the effectiveness of American presence in the region. Americans might try to do the same thing by boosting support for remaining islamist/FSA proxies in the rest of Syria.

>>

Right, right. But in the meantime, Iran's threat is empty is what I'm saying.

Nothing major will really happen until after Isis is gone. Neither is really interested in starting up new conflicts, at least not until Syria has finally dealt with.

You say I shouldn't take Iran's statement lightly, but I seriously doubt that Iran will truly do something big like attack US troops in kurd held lands at the moment.

That was Carlos Hathcock, the greatest American sniper who ever lived. (Don't even mention that Chris Kyle attention whore). During Vietnam he sometimes used a browning .50 caliber machine gun. He somehow set it up to fire single-shot even though the M2 doesn't actually have a single-shot mode. Although the M2 fires pretty slowly (500 rounds per minute) so it could be that he just tapped the trigger and didn't hold it down.

The sling is too small for a human being to use and it has a habit of breaking if a human being attempts to use it.

All of the parts are held together by rivets and quality control is so low that you cannot use parts from one INSAS to fix another INSAS.

Most hilarious part: the rifle is supposed to have two modes: single-shot and three-round-burst. However, the three-round-burst often goes to full-auto mid-burst then reverts afterward, making automatic fire inconsistent.
