One of the priorities on my little branch of National Socialism is art, and I do not know what to make of it. My Tumblr Blog (yes, I got one of those) is filled with Nationalism, photography of war, heroes and everything is paused by small, ephemeral islands of art pieces that I have found to like.
I believe that ideas must be simple, elegant, yet powerful. That is something I got after diving for a while in graphical design as a hobby.
I believe that City Planning is a very important issue and that it must be controlled by the state, as, I believe, Cities are giant art pieces for your people to live in.
If you pay even the most superficial attention to what progressives call "art" you can tell a lot from them; they worship nothing, aim for mediocrity and search for short and useless pleasure (I am thinking about "art" which's only aim it to generate a reaction).
I believe that art must represent a higher value, like the glory of heroes, the struggle of a nation, but also that the simple life of your fellow people is something to be celebrad with pride, as it can represent the values of a nation being put in use even by the simplest of actions.
Even with this very specific rules I have problems with art. I like impressionism, some pieces of modern art, american art deco, some pieces of surrealism, hate most of Picasso but love some Soviet Avant Garde. So I think that degenerate art is not just some styles and all the pieces under it's name, but actually single pieces and the ides under these single pieces.

With that out the way

>What is degenerate art?
>What should we aim for in art?
>How do we get rid of the "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" bullshit without obligating people to have only one mindset?

Also, post your favourite pieces of art as examples

I remember seeing this on my trip to the Tate..

I thought art was a joke and I wasnt sure why I took it for GCSE... until i saw this - not even sure what it is about it that struck me, but from then on I grew to respect art as one of the foundations for a great society and a necessary part of culture.

There isn't anything intrinsically wrong with non-figurative, non-naturalistic art. See the Italian Futurists.

Am I the only one who has trouble with the war aspect of national socialism?

More specifically the sheer amount of casualties taken by national socialist states. Surely there's a way to mitigate loses..

Oh, no. Some pieces can explore the mind or the "essence" of ideas. I have great respect for many contemporary artists and how they express many ideas.
But then there are some that are not ven trying to create something great, not even something good. They are the art equivalent of junk food

I guess it could also be down to the amount of men who are willing to fight and die. Tends to be more volunteers and mandatory service in dictatorships

Nice Thread. Good art is universal and timless. A true genius understands all people and expresses it through his art. We can not really explain it but somehow certain lines or curves or colour combinations, we can all universally agree are aesthetically pleasing. Just like we all agree that certain notes (in music) sound good together without understanding why. It is the highest form of culture as we express universal wisdom that can not be explained in words.

As the Führer wrote - "...the highest ideals
always correspond to a profound vital necessity in our lives, just as the nobility we see in
beauty is ultimately determined by a form that is logical and useful in the end (=THE BEAUTY OF FORM FOLLOWS ITS FUNCTION). Faith helps to raise man above the level of a mere animal existence, and it contributes to strengthening and safeguarding his existence..."

A few years after him, there was a trend of "Bloody Prints", which is quite interesting and basically started what we call "guro" nowadays.

Art is really important, It's treated as a joke because it is a doss subject at school and university level. But if for example you visit somewhere with utilitarian architecture, it just looks cold and uninviting it effects your mood in a negative way when compared with some place that is designed with aesthetics in mind.

Yep, a powerful reminder that the military, like the rest of the people, should be something terribly precious. Something to be protected and furthermore only used when absolutely necessary.

This pic I saw originally in a book, I believe it was Swords of the Viking Age. The item itself is in a museum in Helsinki. I can scarce imagine how beautiful it was in its prime.

So much beautiful art in the world. I think art can really change your life by uplifting your spirit, motivating you and maybe even changing your whole mindset. Just think of all the degeneracy pumped into us from the media. Every time you turn on TV or visit some mainstream website, you are bathed in that filth.

How many times have you been confronted with art like in this thread. No, it's degeneracy, degeneracy everywhere. And that's what we live in. Our souls just slowly rot.

This thread has inspired me to start building my personal collection of graphic art I like, just like I do it with music.

I'm an art dealer. I mostly sell 19th century art, and I spend most of my life hunting fine pieces morning to night, all over Europe. Unfortunately, fellow Europeans and Americans no longer buy that kind of art since they are all craving on post-60s art, so I mostly export to Russia and Asian countries.
Feel free to ask me any question related to art, especially 19th century art.

>Pic related is by Charles-Louis Müller, a painter who was quite famous back then. He painted a ceiling in the Louvre museum.

This sculpture was the most praised and famous sculpture in 1870s France. It's called "Gloria Victis!".
It was made right after the defeat of the Franco-Prussian war. The artist was only 27 years old.

It depicts an allegory of defeat, carrying the body of a dead Frenchman.
The title is a play on "Vae Victis" (Woe to the Defeated); instead of woe, it's now "glory to the defeated" (Gloria Victis). It's a vengeful sculpture against the German empire.

You can find some of these throughout in the world. There are few big ones: one in Paris, one in Copenhagen, and one somewhere in some US museum.
Donald Trump also owns a smaller version of that one.

Since you have a tumblr, I will contact you through your tumblr. I will make an account or something like that. It would be a delight to discuss more about art.

This one here is by an American artist, Abbott Thayer. He was active during the 19th century, and 20th century.
He mostly depicted birds and animals, and even came up with color theories. But he was also more well-known for depicting women as absolutely pure and beautiful, in a chaste way.

There you go.
You can still see it nowadays when you go to the Louvre. It's in a room right after the huge "red" room, if you're any familiar with this museum.

No it's not, it depicts the opening of the Opéra Garnier, in 1873 I think. Anyway, after the Franco-Prussian war. Kinda ironic, because it's typical Nap III style, and yet he never could see the opera house with his own eyes.

This one here is a minor painter (Aimé Perret) but nonetheless quite nice. He always depicted peasants doing peasant things. I find it very nice and soothing.

Normally I see this type of thread and try to argue with you losers by trying to explain why modernism actually gave rise to some immensely interesting, substantial compositions. But that's exhausting and you faggots won't ever actually bother to learn anything about history, criticism, or theory.

So instead, here's a neat Matisse.

Aw crap, it somehow tilted.

Anyway, this painting here is by Bartholdi. Yup, the same guy who designed the Statue of Liberty. This painting depicts California in a golden age of agriculture, instead of fooling around random gold digging. It's clearly a moralistic painting.
