I only know one personally. He's in his early 90s now. He told me that he was drafted into the war in 1943 and sent to defend Königsberg. He said how so many young guys would come into his division and then they'd be gone by next week. He was also explaining how he didn't get a full night of sleep for a very long time and would be passing out in the trenches or whenever his squad stopped to rest for a few minutes. His hand was injured by grenade shrapnel and still has issues with it today. After the war he was sent to a Russian prison camp in Siberia and wasn't released until 1950. This is where he said that he experienced most of the horrors of war. He witnessed more death and cruelty in the camp than during the entire war. When he was finally released he went back to his village in Bavaria only to find that his house had been taken over by US army officers and that he was the only male in his entire family to survive. Every brother, cousin, brother in law, etc had died in the war. US soldiers tried bragging to him how his wife was a prostitute for the Americans while he was away but it turned out that it wasn't true and that his wife went to court over the allegations. In the end the soldiers who tried to make him feel bad got discharged. For the remainder of his life he did various work around his town, climbed mountains, and traveled around the world as a hobby. He loves to show me pictures and tell stories of his mountain climbing adventures. He didn't stop climbing until he was 86 and had a heart attack while solo climbing in the Alps. I feel bad for him because he had two daughters who turned out to be lefties and never had children. He told me how he never got a thank you for his service or and welcoming ceremony. The only people he can discuss the war with are other veterans. He gets excited every time he sees me because I'm one of the few people that actually take interest in him.

My entire family is very proud of the men who fought in their family, never once have I heard any regret from any of them. Most war veterans I've met realized back in the days how shit Mussolini was and joined the Resistenza or went inna woods.

Fascism failed because it became a cancer and abandoned his early ways when it rose to power.

My grandpa was drafted in '41 and he took part in the Stalingrad offensive (Donn, Rostok, Rzev, Odessa, Stalingrad), acting as a German-Romanian translator for the commanding officers.
He was injured during the Odessa urban fightings, when the Romanians decided to wipe the bolsheviks out without the German permission. After he recovered, he took part in the full offensive towards Stalingrad, where he was attached to a mixed german-romanian Panzer Unit.
After the romanian-italian lines got pierced by the russian tanks (despite the warnings of the Romanian Scouts telling the germans that the russians are preparing for a huge mechanised offensive and them not having close to any anti-tank weapons), he was captured and forced to march under the soviet banner - Vladimirescu Unit (romanian POW that were forced to fight for the russians).
He fought his way to Vienna, where he was injured by a grenade. The russians sent him to a gulag where he almost died several times. In 1949 he managed to escape alongside a couple of his old mates and he walked back to Romania (walked by foot from fucking Siberia).
He entered his old village in 1951, barefooted and almost dead. After 3 days, he was arrested by the communists and sentenced to jail - the accusation being treason.
He spent his time in jail, being beaten almost every single day, up until 1958, when he was finally released.

My Granddad was in the War.
He was stationed in Dover castle.
Once, in heavy fog, he thinks he may have seen a German sea plane.
Must've been hell.
My grandfather was in the Wehrmacht (Division Hermann Göring), but He never talked about it. All i know about it was told by my Mother or my grandmother. He cought Malaria, had a russian bullet in his back until he died and got kicked out of a plane. Pretty kekworthy stories alltogether. He passed away when I was 16. Bummer, tho, as a Veteran myself (afghanistan) i would have loved to share some stories with him while getting drunk.
He was a Nazi to his last Day, thats what im certain off, because you could see it in his face whenever this topic was debated, and because my granny said he was.
But on the other side, im glad he doesnt have to see what this once proud country has come to.
Veterans alltogether are not loved in this beautifull new SJW-germany.

Gramps was a despatch rider on the Eastern front. Pic related, not him, but could have been. He was shot in the leg in Translyvania in 1944, but rode on and delivered the message. He loved motorbikes; he had a beautiful 1930's Indian which we had to sell after his death to pay for repairing the roof of his house. He also loved boxing, hunting and for some reason he loved the Flintstones (the Flintstones was one of the few Western shows to be aired in 1960's Hungary, the Hungarian dubbing is fucking hilarious).
He passed away in 1990, just before the Soviet troops left. He loathed the Soviet Union and fate didn't let him see them leave.

since everyone (even non-germans) is sharing their stories, might as well share mine: my great-grandfather was called up for the second time in 1941, his home was close to the new border drawn at the end of the Winter war, so his family was probably evacuated when the Continuation war started, his division attacked towards lake Ladoga to retake lands lost in Winter war, he was fatally wounded on the outskirts of Sortavala & died on the way to the dressing station, according to war archives there were four other individuals from the same municipality with the same last name who died in uniform, plus one who was from Viipuri and is buried there, I can't even describe how mad it drives me when someone calls these six men...you can probably guess...

i envy you, mine lost his hearing and attained PTSD and physical injuries after a shell had fallen right next to him somewhere on the eastern front, the only thing that saved him was his brothers body who was in between him and the bomb and took in most of the blast and shrapnel
he was never stable enough to learn sign language and spent his last days alive sleepless and shaking in a wheelchair not able to properly communicate with his family
