There are also a lot of competition from Chinese manufacturers who are selling their phones in the US now with pretty good specs for a mid-range price like the Huawei honor 5x, Asus Zenfone 2, and Alcatel idol touch 3.

The iPhone sinking has been inevitable since Android was introduced. Jobs knew this and it's why he stupidly dedicated many of his last days to destroying it.
Now, this doesn't mean iOS is bad, it just can't compete with an OS that is cheaper and allows for innovation from many companies.
All of Apple's innovations were inevitably taken in by Android and made cheaper while Android still has many, many companies creating on both the software and hardware level. A one size fits all approach just can't compete in the long run nor continue to be the first to innovate.
As smart phones become more and more commoditized Apple's advantage will continue to drop as cheaper phones begin to become feature rich enough for regular consumers. Even if Apple wants to chase these customers they can't because it is more profitable for them to target the high end. This is disruptive innovation just as Christenson described it and cheap phones are now becoming good enough.
