That being said, I could fill out almost the entire paternal side of the tree with photos going back 150 years and biographical information going back 300 years, as there were a lot of semi-important, historical people (mayors, writers, wealthy farmers, wealthy merchants, war heroes from the Napoleonic wars) on that side of my family.
I love the fact that all of my ancestors have lived in this city and along the coast in this part of the country for as far back as I've been able to look. I enjoy spending time sailing the coast and visiting the places where they lived, and the connection I feel to this area is just unparallelled. My great grandfather was an author and local patriot who wrote several books about life along the coast in the late 1800s and early 1900s, and even 115 years ago, he wrote melancholically about how the fishermen's local culture along the coast was dying and being replaced by the more urban, industrialized culture of the city.
