Anyways, no. Nietzsche was a diagnostician, not a pathology. He merely identified the problem and proposed some curative measures, which we have largely ignored and gone to town with his diagnosis, trying to cure it with all of the other cancers we don't yet have while ignoring his prescription for the eternal return, for self-overcoming, for a revaluation of all values and the birth of the Ubermensch.
When he said God is dead, he was merely stating the obvious from his point of view. It didn't matter to him whether God was real or not (though of course he believed not), but it did matter whether the average man thought that God was both literally real and the arbiter of all value. Once this stopped being the case, Western Civilization as we know it was doomed.
We can't go back, there is no reversing a degenerate cycle. We must press onward. Christianity built its cathedrals over Pagan holy sites, and if we are to build new values we must use the cathedrals as our foundation. There is no 'alternative' to Christianity, only sublimated versions of Christianity. Humanism, secularism, liberalism, socialism, anarchism, all of these political ideologies are rooted in Christianity. They are all rooted in the Christian understanding of what is good. Conceptions of rights derived from God, equality of the immortal soul, free will, ect. It's all Christian ideology.
