Why does Stefan Molyneux call himself a philosopher? He is literally just a youtube vlogger with no academic publications. I admit he is pretty redpilled, but his videos merely state facts in an easily digestible format, which is good, but they don't really contain any arguments.

He is completely mentally preoccupied with the migrant crisis and nationalism, and I highly doubt he has any well-considered views on academic philosophical topics such as the Mind/Body Problem, Epistemology or Aesthetics.

Well, Ahmed, then give us an example of a good modern 'real' philosopher.
>>
I don't like people looking at me when I eat.

It makes me mad for some reason. my friends and family, I don't care at all, but if a stranger makes eye contact with me while I am eating, I want to smash them. I actually did used to attack people for looking me in the eye while I was eating when I was in juvie serving time for similar incidents.

I agree

Hes really just the structured voice of /pol/

Hes not an academic.
>>
>>72101839

Anyone can call themselves a philosopher nowadays. That's why it's a shit degree to have.

Why are you telling this story again you attention seeking cock smoker?

wasnt it a canadian that posted it?
>>
>>72101839
he has written quite a few books, all of which are available on his website for free. most of them touch on parenting in some way, but his "Universally Preferable Behaviour" book is legitly a good read and you might see him more than just a yt vlogger after you read it
>>
>>72102447
I'm not arguing with you. Can you give us something of value and present an interesting modern philosopher? Not that linguistic crap they doing right now.
>>
>>72101839
He did some work on secular ethics, so he can be considered a philosopher.
But I agree, it is really weird when people call themselves philosophers.
>>
Stefan is bat shit insane though. Look up his past/wife/family. He is a loser like most so called ancaps.
>>
>>72102447
Asking the opposition for an example of someone who meets their standards is not a tu quoque, you dipshit.
>>
>>72102447
It is an argument. You are using the definition of a philosopher which is now outdated and useless. There are no real modern philosophers of note that study the same shit as ancient greece. Doesn't mean they aren't philosophers.
>>
>>72101839
Oh look another stefan thread. How much are you getting paid to smear him?

Ever since Stefan came into my life, I've been winning countless internet arguments and debates.

I simply spam "Not an argument" ad nauseam until whomever I'm debating concedes.
>>
>>72102582
I read /pol/ and the news. Sometimes the Bible. I've even read the BoM. Pretty much anything else, I don't read for free. I expect to get paid for the trouble. Otherwise, fuck off with the reading of shit, especially academic garbage.

Explain to me how that's a no true scotsman. Just because you see the word 'real' doesn't mean it's no true scotsman. It doesn't even border on it.

Best economists here at spain are not close to the academia itself, because it's fullfilled with deluded trash

How can you expect philosophers to play within a broken framework.

To make philosophy you only need to think about thoughts, to make it gud you need to do it correctly, which is not even available for smart people, because wisdom is not genetics.
>>
He's not a good philosopher and wrong about a lot of things.
I still enjoy hearing someone talk about the things he talks about. But I would not say I agree with him on most things.
>>
>>72101839
You don't need a diploma to be a philosopher, you only need to think
>>
Alain de Botton's videos are actually pretty good though; good introductory stuff. Thinking of buying my cousin his "Life lessons from Great Thinkers" collection.
>>
>>72101839
Anyone can call himself a philosopher and get away with it. Your post doesn't contain any arguments.
>>
He has videos on philosophy but it's all political philosophy. He's trained through an Ayn Rand focus but he has no knowledge in philosophy in general.

Just watch his argument against determinism for free will. He clearly has no idea what he's talking about or what the discussion has been about for the past few centuries. It's like he's lost. I'd call him an Aristotelean, but I feel like he wouldn't be able to explain eudaemonia to me.

>socialism runs out of other people's money

strawman

capitalism is proof that you can siphon a large portion of what they make everyday and it doesnt run out until their dead by which time there are more than enough to replace them
>>
>>72107464
Not a strawman. It's the truth. You can see it in USSR and Mao's China.

Only formal logic matters in philosophy. The rest of the discipline, generally speaking, is mere unsubstantiated opinion.
