You could live your entire life in tornado alley and still probably never actually see a tornado. Plus, the damage is extremely localized 99% of the time. Giant traffic jam in the parking lot, then softball size hail starts to fall. Sirens going off tornado half mile away and cars being busted to shit, all windows broken side mirrors are being snapped off and the sound off the metal awnings is insane.
Had that tornados path crossed at least this place all these people would have been far more exposed than if they had stayed inside.

It was a 4.0, nothing big to worry about. There was one recently though near Miyagi in Japan, a 4.9.
