I know Australia doesn't really need more tanks but if we did, what country would be buy them from next, besides the US?

Probably Germany, or Russia because fuck Europe

Our M1s are monkey models man. Our entire armoured cav arsenal is out dated desu. Looking like ASLAV and M113AS4 will be replaced by 2020 however. Tanks don't really serve much purpose here. Last time one was in theater was vietnam.

Honestly don't know was hoping someone else knew more about this stuff. I only brought it up because a little while ago the dickhead liberals blew $11bn on second hand refurbished ones from the US when we could have bought new ones from Germany and prototype was mentioned.

I remeber it being something to do with how our light cavalry operates in theatres of war and a light fast tank would be better suited to defend us from a northern invader than a heavy slow one, and complimenting our light cavalry regiments.

As time goes on all tanks will become obsolete much like the leopards ( which we're great tanks the krauts did fine jobs on the L1 and 2) the Abrams just become better in every way.

Shit i wish i was lucky enough to get one of our leopards when the army got rid of 70 of the bastards for free.
>>
>>72088816
you do realize that new modern weapon systems coming out take nearly two decades to be fully tested BEFORE manufacturing AND fielding, right?

do you have any godly Idea how expensive it is to make a weapons platform? whether it be tank or jet?

Australia is best left off fielding either the Abrams or the Leopard 2

Unfortunately it'll be trash, as it stands right now that prototype is quite literally a Swedish CV-90 with cardboard on top.
It's not going to be able to defeat heat signatures effectively enough to be considered on the battlefield, and current equipment might be better.
In the end it's just a silly marketing gimmick that'll crash and burn.

You're better off with Leopard 2A6s or M1A2s and/or purchasing the upgrade packages to come that are being made to counter the T-14.

We fought and expelled mudslimes that were on our territory for almost 500 years. Now we do not have mudslimes at all. Learn history, educate yourself and then tell us what we should do.
Yes we lost Kosovo to mudslimes, but that is only temporary and because USA and Great Britain support mudslimes in Albania(the country you have on your flag, fucking disgrace). Soon we will purify it again, with the help of the glorious Russia and Tsar Vladimir Putin.

Not exactly no, but I am acutely aware that we bought worse tanks than we could have that already existed and were sold to someone else that would have cost less.

Also if you know anything about Australian geography fast, light manoeuvrability will mean the difference between a quick war and decades of insurgency. Its has been noted since WW2 our greatest defence is the sheer distance and fucking horrible landscape you need to travel from the top end to any of the major cities.

M1 Abhrams would serve 0 tactical purpose in the NT or QLD during the wet season and we couldn't field enough to use them in reserve in the nicer parts of the south.

Australia is best set doing what it does now, preparing constantly to cede territory and then make life a living hell while holding the east coast waters and the south and hoping to god China isn't the one invading so we have a chance to survive.

>Old US Army tank fag here

challenger 2 OP. But, only because you said you didn't want the Abrama. But really, any NATO country tank would do. We all use the same Ammo and smooth bore main gun round.

The Abrams SEP v2 out class every tank in the world right now. The only thing Russian tanks are good for right now is Reactive Armour (which is VERY good, I have read reports about how after the cold war. The US Army got their hands on some RA and we found out our tank killer round "The sabot" would/could be stop by Russian RA) and they have three man crew because they use an auto loader which can load a round in 8 sec. Abrams can be loaded in 7 or faster.

>>
>>72089656
that essentially has always been the tactic for Australia.

Truth be told if you honestly want to bolster Aussie defenses you need to focus on your Navy and Air Force while building ties to the countries around you and bolster their defenses considering any country would therefore need to break them before they engaged the Australian homeland
>>
>>72089838

Because Indonesia. There armed forces are so large we could not maintain a Navy large enough to stop them before they got more than enough ground forces onto our shoreline. Ergo it is two pronged defence Navy patrols/blockade to the south on each side of the country and slow Guerrilla war in the interior.

Indonesia luckily only have numbers and can not match our current tiny armed forces or it superior training/experience.

The only other scenario is China which if the US don't immediately step in we are fucked and India is too shit tier to get off their arses to do anything.

http://www.news.com.au/technology/innovation/inventions/the-next-war-can-australia-put-up-a-fight/news-story/7ab3f25bf5974ee8b36a7ebbad0cc2d0

Problem with that is other than New Zealand the rest are third world tourist traps with no means to maintain any significant air force or navy and Australia can not bank roll it ourselves

which is why australia has typically sided with stronger countries.

they remained with the British empire then sided with the Americans when the British could no longer guarantee safety. they have attempted similar deals with Japan when their economy was skyrocketing and recently with China.

Though I doubt the China deal will go far.

>>72090322
Also this
>The only other scenario is China which if the US don't immediately step in we are fucked

There is no indication that there will be a Sino-American war anytime soon. EVEN IF there would be one Australia would be forced to stay neutral (while favoring the stronger side, depending on the circumstances) until the end

realistically as it stands now. if that war were to happen the United States would have an overwhelming advantage due to its naval power right now. China is still building its naval strength

US tanks are overpriced maintenance queens that only a superpower could support.

Russian tanks post soviet collapse are cobbled together prototypes that break a lot, can't be produced in mass numbers and support is liable to disappear without notice.

Mate. You will always buy from America. "All the way with LBJ!" is how Australia defence policy works.
When you initially selected the Abrams for us, you wanted to stick the same powerpack as on the Leopard 2 in there to save on fuel and running costs. And despite how much money it would save, you decided to scrap the idea. All because "Synergy with USMC equipment."
Basically the idea being that if Australia gets invaded and you have totally cucked yourselves. You'll give your tanks to the USMC to use.

The fact is that Sukhoi puts far more effort into making their fighters as maneuverable as possible while the US just throws money at things without proper testing.

The US can still eventually beat Russia's aircraft in a war but it will only be due to superiority in numbers

The F-35 was supposed to be a cheap lightweight plane like an F-16, so keep costs down it was designed with one engine (again, like an F-16).

Trouble is the mission profile and the amount of shit is has to haul around grew exponentially, including 4000 lbs of electronics and a 6000 lb S/VTOL fan. Now the F-35 has a 29,000 lb dry weight compared to the F-16's 19,000 lbs.

Yet the design was never changed from only having one engine.

So now that one engine, first envisioned as a cost-saver both in construction and maintenance, has had to be developed into the most powerful thrust/weight jet engine in aviation history. And that kind of extreme performance doesn't come cheap, or reliable.

I'd suggest we get our tanks from the French, specifically stuff like the AMX R-10 and what not, because for what we use our defence for, it isn't stuff that really warrants having tanks like the Abrams.

The ADF spends most of its time doing specialised counter-insurgency operations or light-infantry warfare, the AMX 10-RC and vehicles like that occassion such activity since they're light and fast, but also pack a punch with their guns.

They're obsolete.

Fast-moving vehicles moving guys around fast with MANPADS > MBTs. Look at what a bunch of low IQ sandniggers can do with very limited supplies of MANPADS, now imagine what a professional army can do with endless supplies of missiles to put in their MANPADS.

Lighter vehicles that are easier to transport and can deploy in a wider range of environments.

Active defense systems are becoming more and more advanced, encroaching on the territory of the old passive armour defences at a fraction of the cost and weight and missile-based weapon systems are becoming much more effective in line with 120mm/130mm cannon, combined this is starting to allow lighter vehicles to achieve a similar level of resilience and lethality as the MBT.

The MBT is unlikely to disappear completely but most armies capable of international force projection are looking to expand their IFV capability, not their MBT.
>>

Tubs have been used in tanks for decades and ensure crew survivability.
CC autoloaders remove human error, reduce excess weight, reduce crew requirements and allow for further separation of crew and ordinance.
The Armata, and the tanks that follow in its lead, will be by far the most survivable tanks in the case of a catastrophic cook off.
By comparison, the M1A2 export version fielded by Saudi Arabia (With DU plates in the turret equivalent to current US standards) has suffered numerous catastrophic cook offs.

Separate, computer controlled autoloaders are part of the future of arms development.

>>
>>72108112
What I mean, is, get them back. Stick with what you had, those things were good. Even if the Leo 1 was a little light on the armour, the Leo 2 is a highly mobile combat beast with high first shot accuracy and reliable, easy to service machinery.

>tfw ANZAC forces in Wargame are generally perceived as the weakest nation on BLUFOR
>tfw love my "Yeah, nah, cunt" ANZAC deck, because it shits out baller infantry with fast Leo support for dem pincer movements

No really. Get Leos. Germans know about weapons. You see the MBT70, the abortion the Americans made with the Germans? The Germans moved on to a 120mm smoothbore, and the Americans stuck with the 105mm. Later on, they had to shell out mad dosh again to refit all their M1's with the clearly superior 120mm Rheinmetall. Stay ahead of the curve, mate. You want that L55/140 on the best platform possible. You want the Leo 2. You don't want those gas guzzling aged shitshows the Americans call an MBT.

I would only buy from the US if I ran things there. In the event of a war or needing to use said tanks, who is most "important" ally with a military custom made to cater to the Abrams? Spare parts, bridging equipment, ammunition, lift capacity, electronics, armor inserts, future upgrades running parallel etc etc

Which foreign supplier is also the most reliable, least likely to cut sales, and difficult to cut off from supplying you with all this as well?

No other tanks any point, unless it's a mega robot doom mecha because everything important is much more efficient with the current choice. Which is why they choose it.
