Well, their long term plan is to build a true blue water navy with 4 carrier task forces that would parry US ones. And they plan that for 2050-2060.
They first have to close all tech gaps their military/air force/navy have and that is 20 years long process.

There's a reason China never expanded much beyond it's traditional border; it's contained by jungle to the south, the world's largest mountain range to the southwest, a desert to the west, and a tundra to the north.
