So yes, its actually quite a significant measure of intelligence. If you learn faster and if you can identify useful patterns in the things you do, you will end up contributing to society. Its what science and engineering is all about. Don't just dismiss IQ like that. Look at most geniuses who brought significant contributions to science and engineering and see how high the estimates for their IQ is. That is not my point. What I meant to say is that on average if you contribute a lot to society, then you have a high IQ. But you can still have a high IQ and not give a fuck about society. Definitely important to create a culture and contribute to society, but not enough to develop it further as the pratical use of all those is almost null.
I agree with politics and I would also like to add social sciences (except stupid crap like gender studies) and economics as examples of pratical importance. And the people who gave the most important contributions to these three areas were also very intelligent people with estimated high IQ.
