The Vice-President isn't the President. He'll fall in line and dislike the TPP and approve of the Muslim ban extremely quickly. If you don't support Donald Trump now that he picked Pence then you probably never supported Donald Trump before and you're certainly in the minority now.

only possible advantage would be to secure the evangelical vote which he already has. Maybe possibly because Pence plays ball with the system to help subdue some of the pressure on Trump by them. Maybe it's an insurance policy so that they don't do anything at the convention.
