What is wrong with free trade? Aren't open markets more beneficial for the economy than protectionism?

Tariffs is why the roaring twenties kept on roaring
>>80506687
Free trade is fine, so long as it's evenly applied.
The problem comes in when not everyone plays fairly, as is often the case with competing countries.

Free market finds the most efficient market point, they find the lowest cost producers to the highest buying customers.
The issue is that the 3rd world has an unfair advantage in producing for less money, it destroys jobs in the west.
The recent Saudi oil price drop is a prime example of this. It is far cheaper to extract shallow oil in Saudi than say the most expensive method of Oil rigs, so Saudi can drop their price low enough for them to make a (smaller) profit but no longer make it feasible for the west to affordable extract and sell oil. Once all the western oil extraction companies have gone out of business they can raise the price again. Of course this will make the west competitive again but they simply drop the price once more.
Free markets are the tool of globalists

It creates dependencies on foreign economies which in turn disintegrates national sovereignty.
Yes goys! You can't make things, china can! Now go back to flipping burgers and making spreadsheets!
Globalists and outsources should be hung. It's exploitation.

Maybe not so much for the United States, on account of your vastness, but sometimes outsourcing is the only option for a business to survive.
Take our sugar industry, Sugar beat grown in the UK cannot keep up with demand, so we need to import sugar cane which cannot be grown in our climate.
Obviously when it comes to things that can be manufactured at a satisfactory rate within a nation, such as steel, protectionism should be applied.
Whatever is best for the individual nation should be applied, not a blanket tariff on all imports

I would rather have a civilization than a good economy.

>Aren't open markets more beneficial for the economy than protectionism?
Yes. But at what cost to the people living in that economy? The US competes against...
>Bad trade deals.
>Currency manipulation.
>Exploitive countries using cheap labor and zero regulation.
>the tax rate in the US is prohibitive and kills competition.
The list goes on and on....
Sure in theory open markets are great but in practical terms they are beyond flawed and corrupt
The current state of /pol/
Thread about economics
>probably won't reach 15 posts
Is X white thread
>130+ posts

That's because /pol/ is full of jabbering retards without the slightest clue about the complex processes that must exist and continue functioning to keep them supplied with cheetos, mountain dew and the fabric to clothe their expansive asses.

Drumpfsters know nothing about anything

>can't discuss news there
>can't discuss politics there
>white threads moved to /pol/
>nobody on 4chan actually learns languages/culture
Its too bad though, /int/ was a good containment board for retarded shitposters but now it seems they've all come here.
