How many of us here are conservatives who do not believe in any gods, spirits, etc?
http://www.strawpoll.me/10531831

Why is the American right full of Evangelicals and other very religious groups? The right side in many other countries, such as in Canada, are not like this. Often, both the right and left have everything from extremely religious people to atheists.
>>
Agnosticismis the view that the truth values of certain claims – especially metaphysical and religious claims such as whether God, the divine, or the supernatural exist – are unknown and perhaps unknowable.

The only reasonable stance, blindly accepting myth or blindly rejecting any possibility of anything greater than base reality is no better than sjw and their own blind acceptances.
>>
Believing in Christ is an ancient white tradition and all conservatives are traditionalists so they will uphold anything tied to that.
>>
>>77874879
That's true, but I have always viewed agnosticism as an on-the-fence position, not a we-can-never-know one.
Personally, I don't believe in anything religious/spiritiual but am always open to evidence, because maybe gods do exist, but I wouldn't call this agnosticism, just being open minded.
>>77875140
Well, before Christ there were many other white religions. Many of the pagan traditions are alive in places such as Russia (maslenitsa) or have been appropriated by Christianity (Yule/Christmas). But I understand what you are saying. It seems to me that this is much more pronounced in America (Republican) though.

Maybe, but I see agnosticism as 50/50, whereas I'm 99/1.

>>77876299
True. I just don't like how the Abrahamic religions say "join us or die/go to hell".

Why is atheism usually associated with the left in America?

Meme docu, not to be taken seriously
>>
>>77876727
Atheism hasn't been associated with the left in America since the whole brights/atheist+ bullshit. Religion has pretty much become a ceremonial thing* and nobody really gives a shit about it in the civic realm anymore. Most of the sensible atheists who are outspoken on the internet got thoroughly disgusted with the regressive left and put most of their energy into railing against all that nowadays from what I've seen.

Probably because atheism favors progressive/socialist policies. They can push for whatever legislature they want because there's no moral framework to adhere to; under atheism it just comes down to whoever has the best rhetoric.

Atheist here. I was very left-wing/ socialist until around the time of the Baltimore riots. I used to listen to NPR every day, slowly resenting every anti-male feminist and anti-white racialist story after another until they blamed white supremacy for the chimp out. I realized that our culture is under assault from Cultural Marxists and that was a much bigger priority than economics or climate change. By the time Bernie Panders cucked himself for Black Lives Matter in shame I was sure I'd made the right(wing) decision.Who cares if the Earth burns or the economy nosedives if the people who live here are no longer worth saving? There are no guiding, absolute rules that are viewed as moral, but that doesn't mean that people who are not religious will be immoral or bad. Many things are universally, generally hold to be good or bad by everyone, no matter their religion or lack of. I can honestly say that I live a more holy/sinless life (minus the disbelief) according to the Bible than the majority of Christians I have met, including my family, friends, and teachers.

>Why is the American right full of Evangelicals and other very religious groups?

Because back around 100 years ago, when communism and socialism were taking over, they were doing so here through the churches. Altruism is altruism. And so, businesses started having people talk to churchs and churches talk to businesses and they created this very stupid idea that Christianity is responsible for Capitalism or the two are intertwined somehow. It doesn't make any sense, but it didn't need to. People think in terms of association, so they positively associated American freedom, capitalism and industrialism with holy mystical Christianity.

It was the only way to prevent dumb ass Christians from inviting a socialist dictatorship, but hey it looks they ended up just doing that anyway nowadays.

No, I hate communism, anarchism, liberalism, SJW, etc. I love Trump and have always supported the Conservative Party. All that differs is that I do not believe in any religion.
>>
>>77877519
The problem is it's impossible to validate that assertion, because of the depth of religious influence upon all current successful modern societies. Even if one were to be brought up in an atheist family, it's still within a culture firmly established on religious principles.

When one appeals to Reason one appeals to God, how does one logically demonstrate the validity of logic itself?
Without positing a God, which would need to be absolute, infinite, just, and good, one can not posit Reason nor rationality.

That's a ridiculous argument. Human logic and the natural phenomenon they describe are not presupposed by any sort of higher power and certainly not a omnipresent being that conforms to human ideals like justice or goodness.

No one has ever made a strong logical argument for a god existing and if you understood that quote, you'd know it's Aristotle explicitly sidestepping the question altogether.

I've been an atheist since high school, like a lot of people I'm sure.

When I started getting the shits with the world, leaning further and further into a conservative (which came completely naturally), I was (and still am) very surprised to see so many religious people.

I don't really understand it desu.

Is it the Christian values? Do people assume humans are inherently wicked without God's teachings?

I'm a strong believer that humans, or erm, white men will lean towards good values by default. We're smart enough to think through the consequences of our actions, on the most part. Women should never have a say in anything other than parenting or cooking.

I definitely appreciate Christian values, but it doesn't make God real.
>>
>>77877593

Capitalism is a part of Christianity and always has been. The Jewish Covenant of material prosperity supposedly passed to Christians. Of course this is completely incompatible with an ascetic Jesus. It's a contradiction that cannot be resolved with intellectual honestly, but that does not stop Christians from trying .

>Do people assume humans are inherently wicked without God's teachings?

I think people under a certain IQ cant conceive of the source of morality being internal. They have to think of it as proscription.

Then again, Christianity tells us over and over how evil we are and that we would be raging animals without it, so it's hard to say.

Dying and going to heaven.

Seeing or hearing him could be due to any number of mindsets, mental illnesses or drugs.

Unexplained phenomena (miracles) could be the result of anything in the universe, and to suggest "God did it" is to do a disservice to humanity.

If we explained everything away to "godidit" where would we be? How many men of science have we prosecuted for contradicting a holy text?

Truth is there is nothing that could prove such a bold claim as "God" to me.

Galileo was persecuted for suggesting the world revolves around the sun.

And if a God was to persecute me for such a pretty crime as not believing him, without verifiable proof; casting me into Hell to suffer for all eternity... What kind of a God is that?
>>
>>77884220

The Bible contradicts itself many times. The words of God and Jesus contradict themselves. If God can't lie, then Christians are forced to explain this fact.

God kills. Does that make it okay to kill? God murders babies in the Bible. Is it okay to mass murder babies?
>>

Around 10% of the world is atheistic, but here on /pol/ it's around 50%, which means it's 5 times higher. Why is it that there are so many atheists on 4chan?Is it a good or a bad thing?(one of them btw)
>>
>>77880650
Nigga u dumb? That's the whole point. God exists. Now move onto something that actually matters.
>>
>>77884096

This. People don't see Christianity as a parasite too. There is always someone making money off it somewhere. They tell people they're evil and the only want to not be evil and have bad things happen to them is to GIVE THEM MONEY!

So it becomes that self-enforcing cycle you talked about.

>>77884220

I can say without God that lying is bad because it creates a false sense of reality and that can hurt you or others. You want a clear view of reality and not lying gets you that. You can't lie your way out gravity existing. Basically when you lie too, people mistrust you. Boom. There is reason not to lie without getting God involved at all.

It also proves how much of /pol/ just plays the contrarian troll/baiter role and how many people take it seriously enough to actually change their real life.

Funny how you don't see anymore fedora spamming once honest atheists were calling out dishonest ones who were spreading the meme. And the meme came back and bite those dishonest ones in the ass. Like some cute girl online said "Atheists have fedoras" and all the fedora-spammers were like "n-n-no that's just the reddit edgy atheists not atheists like me!" without realizing people don't care or see that difference like we do. Atheists where fedoras and are edgy contrarians, that's the meme and the normies just spread like they see it because they don't think any deeper.

Now you don't see the word fedora being thrown around anymore. It's really funny if you think about it. Like the shitposters boomerang came back and hit them in the face and they're moaning that they never like boomerangs anyways.
