Is there any good reason why won't nikon simply put a fucking af motor on this lenses and call it a day?
Also I guess this is the only nikon 50 mm fixed lens with 9 blades.
I really don't understand this.
>>2787597
To make you buy screwdrive bodies
>>2787599
It is a MF lens.
>>2787599
Screw drive bodies are the best bodies anyways. And D lenses are best value for money in Nikon land anyways.
Anyways, Nikon probably doesn't want to dump the R&D into redesigning the 50/1.2 for AF, because it will end up a $1200 lens like Canon's 50/1.2, and the return on it won't be high enough with only pros and rich enthusiasts being able to afford such a lens.
What I really want Nikon to make is a digital sensor inside the FM3A body. Manual everything (shutter, aperture, ISO, focusing), using some kind of electrical signal to trigger the sensor at the right time, for the right duration.
A fully functional split image focusing prism would be godly for the fast lenses Nikon has. The third party focusing screens don't do well enough.
>>2787617
Just buy a dumb adapter for 15 bucks and put it on a Sony. Easy. As. Fuck to focus.
>>2787597
Just buy one, pussy.

because nikon can't do glass right
>>2787688
Yeah, right. Next, please.
>>2787597
Because it's not made for plebs.

>What I really want Nikon to make is a digital sensor inside the FMxx body.
People have been asking for this since digital was created. Nikon answers with the Nikon Df.
Fucking Nikon.
>>2787762
Shoot Olympus, you fucking crybabies.
>>2787660
I have an adapter to put it on Fuji, which is also easy to focus. But focus peaking, zebras, and magnification are slow and cumbersome compared to a nice split prism.
>>2787762
I know. I'm still disappointed by what that camera turned out to be.
>>2787764
Shoot 2x crop sensors that have mediocre overall performance, and no size or weight advantage? No thanks.
>>2787811
>Shoot 2x crop sensors that have mediocre overall performance, and no size or weight advantage? No thanks.
It's the size of an FM2 and it shoots better photos than your scrub ass will ever have need for.
you fuckboys will cry about anything.
>>2787762
Did they ever attempt to justify this?
>>2787811
>But focus peaking, zebras, and magnification are slow and cumbersome compared to a nice split prism.
Then why don't you try the digital split image mode?
>>2787816
I like M43, but the 2x crop is a big disadvantage if the whole point in owning the camera is to use it with vintage glass.
>>2787762
Nothing wrong with the DF other than hipster autists crying because it wasn't as retro as they wanted.
>>2788036
And the fact that the failed retro aesthetic is costing you about 30% more money than a camera with the exact same specs that isn't ridiculous to look at.
It's like stapling some tin panels to the side of your 1998 Winnebago and calling it a retro Airstream.
>>2787597
>>2787608
You can have AF on this MF lens.
https://youtu.be/baIMjiV2Nqk
But you need to use either the A7ii, A7Rii, or the A6300.
>>2788047
>shooting cuck cameras
Get out of here shill. Op asked why Nikon hasn't re-released this lens as an AF version. Not which camera system he should switch to.
>>2788050
He already can use Nikon bodies if AF though. It just gets am additionally silly crop factor.
>>2788053
There's no Nikon body that can AF the 50/1.2.
And a Sony adapter probably won't perform well enough by itself for daily use. A lot of those things need the lens manually focused to within a certain threshold before AF can even begin. At that point, might as well finish manually focusing...

>>2788036
It's not a bad camera but it's not what people where asking for. People wanted a NIkon FMxx with a digital sensor. Nikon even teased the Df as exactly that. People where going crazy. Then they finally revealed it was just a gimped D4 with retro looks. It was all retro looks and none of the functionality.
Nikon doesn't justify anything. The camera didn't sell a lot but they probably made back their investment. Some people actually enjoyed the camera but they were in the minority. At least it made people realize that an FMxx with a digital sensor will never happen at least not from nikon.
>>2789024
Some people wanted a FMxx with a digital sensor. Others wanted what the DF offered.
People just got butthurt because they realised Nikon don't cater 100% to their tastes.
>>2789082
What does the DF offer other than faux-retro styling, gimped functionality, and jacked price?
Nikon mount can't fit AF into a 50mm 1.2, that's why Sigma and Rokinon and all these companies only make up to 1.4.
>>2789082
I don't think there's anyone who wanted what the Df offered.
I think there's a ton of people who wanted what the marketing promised before it came out, but the reality is that Nikon didn't fulfill that marketing.
>>2789262
Prooooooooooofs
>>2789119
Can mount non-AI lenses without damaging the camera mount.
>>2788047
LOL! You have to open the menu just to change the aperture. What a fucking piece of shit!

>People just got butthurt because they realised Nikon don't cater 1% to their tastes.
There are people who wanted what the Df offers but they are in the minority. The camera doesn't sell well. It sells even less than the Nikon 1 which I had forgotten even existed.
I still don't understand the price. How is the Df almost the same price as the D810?
>>2789410
>How is the Df almost the same price as the D810?
It's basically a D810 with video recording disabled
>>2789424
The D810 sensor has more than twice the megapixels and outperforms it in almost every way other than noise because of the pixel count. The D810 also has 1/8000th top shutter speed and the Df only has 1/4000th. Pretty different cameras. It's closer to a D610 which costs half the as much and has 50% more megapixels.
>>2789265
Yes, I'm sure all the people who did buy one didn't actually want one.
Have you even used a DF?
>>2788826
The why would they release a lens that can't AF?
Just kidding.
But seriously, I own the 50 1.4G (got it as a steal when buying my D7000 used). It really isn't that much better than the 50 1.8D it replaced (an I miss the aperture ring).
Something tells me that an AF variant of the 50 1.2 really wouldn't be THAT much better than the 50 1.4G. (or even the newer 58 1.4G). I am not so certain Nikon has a big enough market to justify 4-5 different 50mm lenses.
And who would buy it really? Anyone who needs a 50mm lens probably has the great 1.8 or 1.4 and won't be jumping ship for a long while.
>>2789410
I wish Nikon would forget the '1 Series' and make a proper mirrorless camera. The whole ethos of the Nikon 1 series seems to be too futuristic, from design aesthetic to its strange minimalism.
If I'm paying $900+ for a camera I want it decked out in buttons and manual toggles. Photography is so much a reflexive thing for me that I am confident using my camera in a dark room without ever taking my eyes of the subject in front of me.
My (brief) experience with Nikon's mirrorless lineup has left me perplexed why the cameras have a faux-futurisitc cheapness to them. It seems like Nikon almost shot for the Cult of Apple. A cell-phone works fine with 1 button and a touch screen. A camera does not.
>>2789527
>The DF is a D4 in a smaller body.
With a fastest shutter speed that is twice as slow, almost half the frames per second, less AF points, and non-magnessium body.
>>2789590
The 1.4 G is usable wide open for me and is very good @ f/2. My 1.8 D is only good at 2.8 but it is distortion free and a lot lighter.
>>2789590
Quick question.
Why are none of you buying the 58/1.4G now, before they discontinue it due to poor sales?
It gives you dat rendering, and works great on your Fonehunnit.
It will almost certainly be rare and collectable in years to come.
You could almost go to a dealer and buy out their stock at a discount as an investment.

Because basically everyone who wanted a normal 1.4 already has a 50mm 1.4 and the 58mm is too similar to bother with.
>>2790007
I really don't want to pay $1000 for a fucking golden ring, when I can buy the 50mm 1.8 D and get the same sharpness. Or the 60mm 2.8 D and also have macro functionality and the same sharpness.
Anyone who wants a good 50mm 1.4 will buy the sigma version.
