do you have any photos where they don't look like they're about to storm the beaches of Normandy?

I gave it that color cast on purpose after sending four different micro-proposals: a perfectly balanced white balance, one with a warm cast, one with a slight cool cast, and one with a slight cool cast and magenta undertones (which they chose).

And here you go friend. A smile just for you :-)

These are fuckin awful. Did you even try giving your clients instructions while posing so they didn't look like constipated angry Latinos in a forced marriage because he knocked her up?
>>
>>2877544
can you photoshop her gummy smile out and do something with his awful hair?
>>
are they all portrait style?

did you not take any with them posing in front of some nice architecture or nice trees or water feature or something like that
>>
>>2877544
his skin tones are still really fucked up in that photo, so I guess the other photos were from the other proposals?
you need to work on getting people to relax, that dude does not look at ease in that photo
>>
poor choice in earrings. reflecting all over the place my man
>>
>>2877590

>>
>>2877595

they look fine themselves, but it's leaving marks all over their faces. makes their skin looked fucked up
>>
>>2877534

wew lad. happy marriage on the horizon.
>>
>>2877601
I see what you mean
>>
>>2877532
You flat out missed the focus. The focus is on her shoulder, not her face. Also, whatever editing you did to her skin turn it into garbage.

>>2877533
Man that light blows. He looks like a guy wearing a cheap rented tux who's not used to wearing a suit of any kind. He also looks constipated. Also, he looks angry. And the color is all fucked up. Also, he's way the fuck too far to the left of the frame. You've taken the RoT thing way too literally here.

>>2877534
Are these engagement photos are divorce photos? For fuck's sake they're the most unhappy couple I've ever seen. And man, the editing is just so fucking heavy handed. Whatever you're doing to the color looks fucking awful. Stop it. Just try to make it look natural before you start fucking things up.

>>2877544
At least they're smiling. They still look hot and uncomfortable as fuck. I guess that's what you get for putting them in a field in the middle of the day in the summer wearing shitty formal ware.

>>2877555
This is the best shot in the series.

And holy fuck, you had an assistant and this is all you achieved? Fucking hell, bro. This is terrible. The editing (particular the colors and whatever ways you fucked up the texture) is embarrassing.
>>
>>2877532
>1/2000
>f/3.2
Fucking hell. And you were still shooting with a strobe and reflector? How much fucking light did you blast on these poor saps. They probably got skin cancer from this shoot.
>>
>>2877652

Uh, focus is on her face in the OP. If you can count pores, it's in focus.

I mostly agree with the rest of your critique, heavy handed though it may be.

OP, you need to pull down the red in these. Dude looks like he's either sunburned or an alcoholic or has rosacea (which he might). Use the HSL module tab to your advantage if you're just doing all of these in lightroom.

Also, what's with all of the space on the right side of the frame in all of these? Is your left arm shorter than your right arm or what?
>>
>>2877532
Reflections from earings are very distracting. Not a fan of the makeup but whatever. Front focussed.

>>2877533
Do you have him looking straight into the sun, or does he squint naturally?
>>
>>2877566
Bad suggestion, cheesy as fuck and screams I-don't-know-what-I'm-doing.
>>
>>2877590
The sequins in the dress are what's reflecting the light spots like a disco ball.
>>
>>2877534

Her 'stache is fuller than his would be.
>>
The post processing looks weird. You lifted the blacks too much so it just looks flat and lifeless. The skin tones are really terrible and that's the most important thing to focus on when you're processing stuff like this. I think you might not have a very good grasp of light because these have a dirty feel to them and I think you would have been much better off just using natural light.
>>

>>2877689
Legit cracked up at this. Ended up not using the strobes because the bright sunlight gave the reflector enough kick to negate the need for them.
>>2877696
I like to leave a little empty frame in almost all of my portraits. Not sure why, but it pleases me, and self-pleasure what ultimately matters right?

>>
>>2878228
look you're not totally incompetent, you clearly know something about lighting and camera use, but you've obviously got a lot of room to grow (do you really want to be a wedding photographer for the rest of your life?) the areas in which I'd guess you need work are: 1) rapport with your models -- none of these poses look natural 2) postprocessing skills -- your color sense is iffy and you clearly don't incorporate blemish correction into your workflow 3) creativity

I've never understood why people do this?
Why not just send the the correctly balanced photo that looks natural instead of variations? Are they even viewing on a calibrated monitor?
>>
>>2877926
better than some people standing in the middle of a fucking field with some blurry trees in the background, nothing to the photo except her horrible smile and his greasy hair

not saying make some building the subject of the photo but still focused on the couple just in a more photographic environment such as a nice garden or waterfall, adding to the overall photo

theres a reason most pro wedding photographers do it, because it looks good
>>
>>2877544
>I gave it that color cast on purpose after sending four different micro-proposals
>after sending four different micro-proposals

That's a fucking terrible idea. You're the photographer. Not the client. They don't get to pick shit like that.

First off, the fact that you gave them an option is fucking hilarious.

Second, the fact that you even gave them THIS particular option is even worse. So not only are you letting clients make decisions for you, but you're actually giving them shitty options to choose from.

Somebody in this thread already said it best: That color makes him look like a raging alcoholic.
>>
>>2878464
>theres a reason most pro wedding photographers do it, because it looks good
Bullshit.

Wedding photographers, by and large, do shit because it's trendy and because it's what morons with no taste like. Decisions are made based on whatever flavor of the month trend is hip on Pinterest, not what looks good.
>>
>>2878467
its not a trend though, its been done for years and years
>>
>>2878471
>its been done for years and years
It's been done ≠ It's good

Cheesy shit has been done for years and years and years. It will continue to be done. That will never make it good.

These photos suck for a whole host of reasons. The lighting is horrendous. The processing is horrendous. The wardrobe is horrendous. The composition is horrendous. The composition is horrendous. The posing and facial expressions of the two are horrendous.

Putting these two next to some cheesy ass fountain wouldn't have made a damn bit of difference.
>>
>>2878488
if they got married somewhere they care about it would
these photos look like they were taken on the highschool football field, they don't capture the event of the wedding
>>
>>2878497
It would probably help if you actually took a few moments to read OP's explanation of what this is:
>>2877532
>Did an engagement shoot
>engagement

Nothing about this shoot makes sense. It doesn't make sense why he's in a cheap rented tux. It doesn't make sense why she's in a cheap prom dress. It doesn't make sense that it's in a fucking baseball field. It doesn't make sense that it was shot on the brightest, hottest day of the year.
>>
>>2877532

>>
>>2877533
the composition on this one is so bad...why is he half out of the frame?

>>2878228

>>
>>2878223

>But these are all natural light lol
Then why do list what light you used as well as have a picture of your assistant holding a strobe?

>>2878226

This dude. This is exactly why you will never get any better. This place is full of assholes that talk shit no matter what but this whole thread is offering you actual advice that applies to what you're doing wrong but you refuse to accept it.
>>
For the most part these photos are pretty good albeit a little overexposed. I think my only major critique is that they are oversaturated. I agree with the statement that the picture of your assistant was better than the pictures of your subjects. So just chillax bro, don't go overboard on stuff.
>>
Keep going banished one, I know it's disappointing for you, but you gotta listen to the critique instead of simply posing as a pro. I personally like the cover picture (albeit the baseball comparison is more than accurate), you just gotta be keep working man.

i'm not gonna go through each one, because there really isn't even enough good quality in here to critique. but:

you need to learn how to focus
you need to learn how to compose
you need to learn how to post process
you need to learn how to correctly use a strobe

looks like the setup is a little too complex for you. most people learn how to take decent photos before jumping into paid shoots with prosumer grade gear. it's called "honing your craft." this step comes before paid work. these are so trash i genuinely feel sorry for the couple.

>>2878029

Fuck off. Even if you hate Sugar's personality, that's just plain false. He's horribly inconsistent as a photographer, but to say that this train wreck of a thread is better than *everything* Sugar's ever posted is just silly.
