Might as well make a thread, since I figure a lot of us will be shooting stuff tonight.
Anybody have cool plans? I'm going up to the mountains of LA, hoping to get some cool long exposure shots of the city with fireworks everywhere.

That's kinda what I wanted to do. Where you going?

If you're spending the night with your face shoved in a camera, and you're not getting paid to do it, reevaluate your life choices.
>>2876158
Mt. Wilson.

I'm going with a bunch of friends, so it's not gonna be an antisocial /p/ autist kind of thing.
I've actually wanted to do this exact thing for years, but I'm always at Anime Expo on the 4th and skipping out on con parties and socializing to go take some photos isn't worth it. The con ended today this year, so for once I'm free.

fireworks
Do you have a photo?
OP here. Not sure if it was clouds or smoke, but there was some shit in the air that made getting actual fireworks photos hard. It made for some pretty rad night landscapes, though.
I'll post the fireworks shots here and the others in the RPT, I guess.

Also, it's crazy that you can actually see a ship way out in the ocean in that one. That's like 40mi away or something.

I'm fairly certain not taking a photo is better than that
>>2876340
Sucks that you couldn't get the fireworks, but the clouds (might be smog) makes for some interesting effects.
My autofocus screwed me over.

I think that was the least of your problems.
>>2876341
I like this one, I kinda want to crop it though. like maybe just the left half? regardless it's really neat that you could see so many shows, it's a concept I haven't seen before, and the fog looks great
>>2876615
why left side? there's less there. really odd choice
>>2876620
the fireworks are denser and it makes it more vertical. it's just an idea though, I freely admit it could be a shitty idea
>>2876620
you're right though, the clouds are more interesting on the right
>>2876464
Oh really? What other problems do you see?
>>2876713
-didn't keep the camera steady
-shot at 6400 ISO so you've got Hanatarash-level noise
-clipped off the top of the only interesting object in the frame
-there's a fucking window in between you and the photograph
>>2876719
That's a bridge over a lake I was on. And anything below iso 6400 came out black. Yeah I'd love to shoot everything <iso 200 but its night. But yeah gotta work on that camera shake.

the reflections are kinda cool there I admit
what you do to take a cliche fireworks photo is slap your camera onto a tripod and take long exposures at low ISO. Fireworks are bright so they show up at reasonable apertures.
Outside of Pittsburgh
Olympus OMD EM10 on a tripod, 9mm fisheye bodycap lens, ISO 200, f/8, 9.5 second exposure (bulb mode with cable release)

I think it's better as it is, fireworks on the left, clouds on the right. I don't think there's any good way to crop a photo like that, it just looks the same desu. Maybe even a panorama would've been better to get a more inclusive shot of the clouds. maybe an overall shape would've emerged
the only one
