Ok /p/
I got a Sony a6000 on black friday, i fucking love it, but i'm itching for a low light lens (all mine are f/3.5) - and as much as i'm wanting low light, i'm really not willing to justify $400 for a 1.8 lens this early on in to this hobby...
But i'm seeing These for like fucking cheap, <$40 for f/1.7 35mm and adapter.
They look really good surprisingly given the cost, Any reason i really shouldn't get it? are they actually shit? Seems really too good to be true
Given i've accepted some of the shortcomings like Possible Vingetting as they aren't meant for APS-C, and i'm not expecting god tier quality out of a fucking $30 lens.
So what do you think, good investment? you guys have one of these?
>>2725496
Nah it's probably shit. You shouldn't really skimp on lenses. Depending on what you're doing, a tripod might be a better solution.
I guess that's not that helpful though.
You could try old manual-focus film lenses with an adapter perhaps. Can't say I have experience with it myself, but the short flange-to-sensor distance should in theory make mirrorless a good system for adapting lenses cheaply (i.e. without lensed adapters).
I have one for a m4/3 camera. Its fun to mess around with but thats about it, you'll want a better lens for sure. I used it for 2 days and havent touched it since.
Also, on an aps-c sensor, you'll have severe vignetting on any aperture. If you're willing to crop all your photos that'll help, but not much.

This does work, and works well.. Cheaply for Full manual, electric lens adapters are costlier
>You shouldn't really skimp on lenses. Depending on what you're doing, a tripod might be a better solution.
I Do have a tripod already. it's just like for some still imagery that i just like that fast shutter speed (Also good for video obviously) Normally i'd agree not to skimp on lenses, but usually i use that argument for choosing between two average priced lenses... Seems like a good babbys first fast lens - which is kinda what this would be for me
>>2725518
Have any example pics?
>Severe Vignetting
Is it really that bad?
>>2725496
If you looking for something fun and hip then get it.
it's fun and cheap. Just don't expect it's going to be great for product type photography.

Expect a lot of vignetting and field curvature in any case, terrible sharpness maybe.
If you're going full manual anyway, why not get a Takumar or Olympus OM or something? If you look around you should definitely be able to find at least a 50 or 55 f/1.8 or something for less than $40, and unlike those cheap CCTV lenses they're actually really good (and don't feel cheap either).
Sub-f/2 lenses will be mostly around 50mm though (short tele/portrait length for APS-C) You're probably not going to find an old 35mm that fast for a good price.
>>2725496
OP How much did you get the a6000 for? curious
>>2725496
I was in the exact same situation as you (got an A6000 on Black Friday, etc.).
After taking a look at these CCTV lenses, and almost pulling the trigger, I decided to go for the SEL35F18, used, for EUR 280.
And I don't regret it. Sharp as fuck, nice boke, you name it.
And it's optically stabilized to boot
You could grab one of these for fun, as you said $30 isn't too much. But... it's still $30 you could put towards that SEL30F18.

It's ok at best honestly. I picked it up because I was in the same situation as you and didn't want to spend that $400. Heavy vignetting, manual focus can be slow if you're not used to it, etc. On the plus, the focused areas can be pretty sharp if you pair it with focus peaking, CA isn't horrendous, and it's only $30. Got it because of the aperture but will probably upgrade to the sigma 30mm sometime soon.
let me tell you a secret, unless you're shooting film glass for low light is bullshit unless you're buying some $$$$ L glass shit. The 1-2 stops afforded to you by buying cheap primes are NEGLIGIBLE
Up the ISO a bit, and/or use a tripod and doctor the RAW
I would figure out if you like MF first. I got a Fuji XE-1 recently and even though I'm used to MF from film, I'm still considering getting an AF lens soon
>>2725585
I got a Pentacon 50mm for $25
Much better IQ, no vignetting. Smooth as a new Zeiss, probably was manufactured by Zeiss. Fuck that gay ass chink shit.
>>2725560
>>2725585
keep in mind, on a m4/3 camera, the vignetting was this bad unless shooting wide open (where there would be serious distortion but the whole frame is visible). on aps-c it will be worse, even wide open you'll have to crop.
still, for 40 bucks its a fun lens.

Well i'd like the option for film just cause i like having options + i love the quality of video on this cam.
>>2725496
I think your best bet would be to get some lenses for Canon FD or Minolta MD and adapt them to the camera. A 50mm f/1.4 FD lens is around 60 bucks on eBay and an adapter is around 10 - 15 bucks. I use older lenses most of the time and the focus peaking on the a6000 will make it easier to focus with it being all manual.
Don't buy it! Get yourself a Canon FD 50/1.8 it's a nice lens it's really cheap and you can get right up to a 1.2 if you decide you like them.

an old nikon 50 1.4 in excellent condition is about $100. slap on a $10 adapter, and you'll have a nice portrait/low light lens. the ~85mm focal length equivalent is probably not suitable for walkaround use though
>>2725496
Quality on those can vary. I bought one and can't get the thing to focus. on top of that when I stop mine down the leaves close to a rectangle.
Check Craigslist, eBay, thrift stores if you're feeling lucky. You can find some fast manual lenses for pretty cheap.
I have a fujian 35mm for my nex.
Not a bad lens, nice short accurate focus throw.
It's great for video, here is some guy shooting a wedding with it.

Looks like it has a bit of lateral chromatic aberration. You are right about the vintage look though the spherical aberrations make it look quite dreamy.
Another backer for Canon FD lenses. It's all I shoot with my A7.

If I had an A6000, I would get this lens:
http://briansmith.com/sony-a7r-10-18-e-mount-lens/
Expensive as fuark, but I love wide angles for landscapes. The special thing about that lens is it's actually has compatibility with the Full Frame cameras, and nearly covers a whole FF sensor down to 11-12mm, so it's extremely wide, much wider than the default kitlens you have.
Also, update your firmware for extra XAVC codec capability.
Other than that, I agree with some of the others, the cheaper 50mm manual focus F1,4 from Minolta, Canon, or Nikon would probably serve you well for low light.
