I've got a question about websites: If I wanted to learn how to make myself a smooth one, what scripting language should I learn and what tools should I equip myself with?

Squarespace is pretty neat.
do you guys know any decent FREE platform on which you can base your portfolio? I'm not ready to shell out money for ones like squarespace yet, though I'm really tempted after using the trials

Outside of instagram/flickr/facebook ect no. Don't go for a free website which has a fucked up url, adverts, limits or any other of that bullshit. If you're serious about photography you need to have a website that you will be proud of, if you can't afford a website then don't get a free one. If your work is hosted on a free website people will instantly perceive your work as amateurish and worthless. If you cant afford SS then learn some basic HTML/CSS and buy some cheap hosting
