Red pill me on focal lengths for portraiture.
>>
what kind or portraiture anon. Environmental could be as wide as 35mm on a 35mm sensor but really if you're doing portraiture of any kind you should be shooting DMF if not LF

Mostly street and environmental on a medium format camera.

Fine

Give it to me straight about focal lengths for portraiture

Is that good for you?
>>
>>2872568
That's actually better, yes. This is /p/, not /pol/. You were off by two letters.
>>
>>2872568

For focal lengths if you want to play by the rules you would need something between 70 and 100mm, but that's's not taking into account wedding and fashion/studio photogs. Fashion photographers will use 200mm, 300mm, and possibly even 400mm f2.8 lenses so that they blow out the background while still keeping a majority of the subject in focus, this is why many of their studios are so long, it's because they need to do those shots form far away.

If you're shooting medium formats you also need to know about the equivalents.

For say a 105mm f/2 you would need

>180mm f/2.8 on 645
>210mm f/4 on 6x6
>220mm f/4 on 6x7
>250mm f/4.5 on 6x9
And lastly for LF
>350mm f/6.7 on 4x5

Thank you for the info anon. How are you doing the math for conversions to 645 and 66? Looking at some lenses for the Miamya 645 and people seem to be saying the 150mm is ~90mm on a full frame, is this accurate?
>>
>>2872684
Not him, but 150 X 0.6 = 90, so yes, a 150mm is about 90mm equivalent. That said, I prefer the look of 120mm lenses on MF, shooting on bigger formats just begs you to go a bit wider than you're usually used to.
>>
>>2872684
I just added the height and the width squared then square rooted the diagonal of the film, and then divided the diagonal of 35mm by the diagonal of 645, 66, 67, and 69

Crop factors are a little rough but
>645=0.6x
>66=0.51x
>67=0.49x to 0.47x
>69=0.43x
>4x5=0.3x
>>
>>2872851
Also if you want to shoot portraits using Polaroids the crop factor is 0.39x
