I pretty much can afford a D800 and thousand dollar glass yet I shoot with an Nikon F90x, which was only given to me. I used to have a Nikon D90 but I sold it since its getting old and I bought it for cheap anyway.
Is Sugar a pro photographer? If so, then it is understandable to have all those gear since its gives him a livelihood. But for a hobbyist, why spend all that money? One or two cameras is all you need in my opinion.

Different interests and needs, I guess. I'm not really into travel photography, and a new piece of gear is something I can use every day of the year, instead of having a week or two of travel and then coming back to the exact same setup.
That said, I live in a place with no shortage of photographic opportunities, and I'm at a point in my "career" where I have my niche and usually know exactly what capabilities I want to expand and what piece of gear I might need. I see a lot of people on /p/ that keep buying various pieces of gear that do the same things, and I agree that that's often kind of pointless.
