used my knees as a tripod. I didn't bring a tripod to don't get much attention to myself with a camera in hands as it's so fucking easy to get robbed in the beach at night. I was like stalker mode, this is the best I got.

I see what you're trying to do here, but your film scan is cropped way to much. It abstracts and removes the architecture, and not in the way you intend.
Your composition is good but you're shooting into the light, hence why the contrast falls in the upper left.
Leave your scans relatively uncropped, as the iso that your using isn't nearly good enough to crop by like 400%?

Slightly better but my eyes keep drifting into the background (where the car is coming from I believe) and I see a construction machine.
Be careful when you use trailing lines (like the car's running board in this shot) because things like those lead the viewer's eye. Make sure it leads them somewhere worthwhile.

It just doesn't look very good honestly. they're poorly framed and composed, and not very interesting to look at. If you're not editing them like you say then personally I think you're overexposed, not underexposed. The lens you're using has so little contrast that having the pictures this bright just makes them look totally washed out and not in the intentional "lo-fi" aesthetic type of way you seem to be going for.

I'm working on my compostion/framing. I realize that having one or two subjects in them frame dead center can be boring. I'm hesitant to include more in frame in fear that I might draw focus away from the subject by having to much going on at once, but I guess that's my fault if I'm not able to make it work.

Here's a shot I took using the same camera on the same roll of film. It was a much sunnier day compared to the day I took the other photos and had different lighting (which I thought had a more interesting look than the mid-day lighting on this photo).

I actually really like that one. The problem with most of the others isn't necessarily that your subject is planted in the center, it's just that it isn't composed in a way that puts any thought into context. In the picture you just posted there, the geometry around the subject creates lines of interest to bring your attention to him. The rest of the pictures don't really have any relation between the background and subject so it just kind of looks messy.
I've been on vacation in cozumel for a few days, trying my hand at composing quality photos and editing from my iPhone SE before I sink money into a dslr, lemme know what y'all think of these and how I can improve (especially with the editing).
