What kind of camera and film do you need to take pictures like this?
I always see folding cameras and vintage cameras. But the results I'm always disappointed with.
The pictures are always high res and in full color.
You're in way over your head buddy. Google wet plate photography and collodion process.

looks complicated
is it more expensive?
meh...just use photoshop
no one from the 1800s is going to criticize you for it
These are tintypes, which you'd know from pic related. you don't need to mount the plates in a camera to expose them. Can all be done with slides and an enlarger in the darkroom.

it seems cheaper than using an actual digital camera
most tintype wet plate cameras are 300-1000 dollars from what I've seen. Not cheap. But way less expensive than an actual modern day camera
The slides themselves are 39 dollars for a pack. I don't know how much the chemicals cost. But I don't have a dark room

are you saying I don't need a tintype camera?

its not the same

that's probably one of the series of photos by that lady who went to sundance or some other film festival and made tintypes for shits and giggles during interviews
