What's your travel set-up /p/?

This is what I've been running with for a couple of years or so now and it's been fine, but I've found that I probably could do with an UWA zoom. Leaning towards that noice Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 VC USD. Also considered getting a 70-200mm f/2.8 VC USD, but my friend who used to own one said it's too big and bulky to be traveling around with, especially for street shooting.

Bag is a Cyclus Pangolin by the way. I paid waay too much for it $500 in total. Shipping itself was about $120...

Since OP has already done us the pleasure of being a gigantic faggot again, how about actual travel gear?

Since its cumbersome to carry something separate for my camera gear when I already have a backpack, what is a good case/pouch that takes up minimal space but will prevent my DSLR (D3300 + 18-55 or 50 1.8G) from being crushed/scratched? Everything else is pretty robust (charger, felt bags for other lenses, etc.) but I'm trying to work out the best way to carry my camera inside my main, since I'm planning to take it with me overseas in the next couple months.

X100s with FlashQ wireless triggers and XE20 flash. This is what 70% of my personal work is shot on, I also have an XT1 with a few lenses that I will take on bigger trips. And a 5DIII as my work camera. Not in image are my business cards and my wallet & keys.

Different strokes etc. I had studio and location shoots scheduled (half of which sadly fell through), and wanted the option of both. Love the portability and the power of the Icelight, as well as the battery life, but I wouldn't want JUST the Icelight in my kit.

Great for finding your keys in the dark, mind.

I live the shame and humiliation every day. But since I spent so much on it, I might as well get as much use out of it.

It's actually fairly rugged too, so I have to qualms about using it in adverse weather conditions.

Mate, it's literally the shittiest backpack you can design. It's tiny, holds no more than a box of tampons and from the reviews it appears that it's actually somehow heavy. Above all it looks fucking spastic, like some retarded beetle carapace.

I'd sell it asap and use the money to get something decent.

I know it's not exactly "Travelgear" but I got this hardshell case from when my Parents were working freelance speakers and I made the minimalistic foam inlay myself. There's extra stuff hidden like cables and batteries under the lid-foam (which is wrapped in black).
The pre-cut foam inlays just cost too much and never have the right dimensions.
Video Gear btw.

Depends on where I'm going, what I'm doing or for how long, but these days usually one of the following:

> X Pro 2 // 16-55 f/2.8 // 50-140 f/2.8 // 35mm f/1.4 // X100T // SP-1 printer

> X Pro 2 // 14mm f/2.8 // 23mm f/1.4 // 35mm f/1.4 // 56mm f/1.2 // SP-1 printer

> X100T // TCLX100 // WCLX100

I'll also throw in two or three 600EX speedlites and triggers when appropriate.

Anyone take a small laptop or netbook or something when going on longer trips far from home?

Considering getting a MacBook Air 11" (smallest usable one - actually has more than one port unlike that retarded macbook).

I'd like to be able to back up my daily takings (vids and stills) on a portable hdd etc., and maybe do some mild pp during those idle moments on a train or bus or whatever.

From Thailand, and am going to England, Spain, France, Germany ("the circuit") so that's a lot of travel time and I'd like to avoid bringing a larger computer.
>>
For my daily assignments I always carry a 16-35 2.8 and 70-200. My reason for not carrying a 24-70 is it lacks when shooting in a tight area, and hardly do I feel i need to shoot within the 40-70 range

In a little camera bag:
-camera, sometimes with a backup camera
-lens
-flash
-lots of batteries for everything (or a few dozen rolls of film if that's your thing)
-charger
-extra memory cards
-lens cloth
-black paper tape
-extra shirt, rolled up

Besides that:
-wallet, phone+charger, etc.
-extra cash to keep on your person, or something you can pawn if you fuck up and need to get back home.
-a couple of sleeping pills, and painkillers wrapped in paper. (hard for me to fall asleep on buses and planes, and jet lag is a bitch)
-pepper spray for undesirables (be sure to toss it out if you're going to a courtroom or political event or something)

Everything fits in my Domke F6 and pocket for a 2~4 day trip.

this desu

A tablet or something for backup during down time is useful tho
>>
>>2870831
Yeah, you're right.
Post is best done post-trip. However there's still the issue of backups.

How do you guys do it? Or do you just bring a lot of memory cards and hope that none of them fuck up?
>>
>>2871064
I've been through stages in backup over yearly trips to Europostan:

>Trip #1 - Backup? What's that?
Lost 120 images - though manged to recover them some years later as I threw the card in a drawer and tried better recovery software down the track

>Trip #2 - Fuck not backing up after last time but fuck a laptop
This was painful but it worked, and worked back when there were way less options with tablets etc - Camera had a microSD card in an SD card adaptor that itself was in a SD>CF adaptor; shoot til it's full, transfer to my then new 7" first-gen Samsung Galaxy Tab; copy off to another microSD card which is my backup; delete from the tablet ready to back up the next microSD card. Painful

>Trip #3: Hey maaaaate can I grab your computer?
Spent large tracts of the trip with a girlfriend living in Europe or with a mate who was travelling there for a year; had a portable HDD and used their computers to transfer

>Trip 4: No seriously, mate, can I borrow your computer?
4 week long bucks party before a wedding and then a fortnight by myself; the buck had a laptop because they were still finalising wedding plan shit, so used that and a HDD

>Trip #5: Surface
Several SD cards for the camera; dump everything on my SP3 for backup

>Trip 6 and present arrangement:
Dual SD card slots set to mirror; dump the second card frequently

I've considered the option of sending home a third backup copy by post but I usually have my primary and backup copies spread around a little anyway, so haven't elected to yet.

Thanks for sharing your experiences.
By the way, what's
>dump everything on my SP3 for backup
?

I'm thinking that the way I might go would be a variation on your
>>Trip #2

I've got a small android tablet and an s7 smertphone and an otg dongle thing that accepts sd cards, microsd cards, and, strangely, compact flash and sony memory sticks (lmao).

I'm thinking about ditching this and picking up one that has standard usb instead of those two unneeded extra ports.

What I've tried:
>card out of camera, copy to internal/sdcard memory of phone or tablet
>remove cameracard, stick blank backup card or usb stick (whichever turns out to be cheaper)
>paste
>repeat for redundancy

I'll have a small pile of flashdrives or sd cards by the end of this then.

This will be a damn hassle as although copying is faster than when you had to do it, all the mounting and unmouting, plugging in and out, in and out (in and out), it's still not conveniently fast unless I buy only costly fast cards and thumb drives.

The alternative is to buy pic related, which is relatively fragile, bulky, and another fucking thing to lug around.

Flashforward
I can see it now: turns out I'll take no damn pictures or vids at all and the whole mental exercise was a waste, and lugging my gear around just useless strain, all because backing up's a bitch just like me.

Been thinking about upgrading to a Surface Book from my current and old ass Samsung SmartPC Pro. It's still fast for basic editing with the i5 processor and SSD but I could use a bit more battery life and screen real-estate.
