i didnt do anything to sharpen the image, also, while were on the topic, stay THE FUCK away from sharpen sliders, they never have and never will help your image. They cause haloing around important details, which in turn ruins the sharpening that you are trying to get
just stick to edit>sharpen, only do it a little bit at a time. create a new layer on top of the original if you have to and sharpen it, and put it on 50% opacity and then merge to the original, itll still look enjoyable and sharp.
also, when downsizing, make sure to put resampling on "bilinear" it saves small details instead of blotching them out

I try to get the stars as in focus as I can. I figured out a method where I find the farthest street lamp to focus on and then get the focus sharper on the stars. It seems like a clear night where I am so I will try to see how that works out.

There is something about this and my next picture that infuriates me very much:
This one is one of a set of RAW images I took of a landscape for an HDR render. On site I already got the idea to process it via my camera's RAW-processing abilities.
I think it turn out better right off the cam than the HDR I made of the set later. The colours seem more natural, The clouds are more visible, the rays are more satisfying, etc.
What is it that makes this image so much better than even three times the brightness information from the HDR can't bring in?

Use a higher quality lens, or shoot at your lens's sweet spot. Diffraction gets worse every step down from wide open, so f/9 on an APS-C, you see it as soon as f/5.6 or f/8 in extreme cases. On M4/3, it happens even earlier.
Also, if you can't come up with a place to focus in your image, it's a very good indication that your viewer isn't going to have any place to look, either. Take it as a red flag that your shot doesn't really have much going for it.

I didn't say it couldn't a spot to focus, i meant that I couldn't find a spot where my eyes were capable of picking it up. i tried to focus on these bright spot far in the forst but I think I missed them by a bit (I don't autofocus in deep shots)
