"Navy chaplain Luis Padillo gives last rites to a soldier wounded by sniper fire during a revolt in Venezuela. Braving the streets amid sniper fire, to offer last rites to the dying, the priest encountered a wounded soldier, who pulled himself up by clinging to the priest’s cassock, as bullets chewed up the concrete around them. The photographer Hector Rondón Lovera, who had to lie flat to avoid getting shot, later said that he was unsure how he managed to take this picture. The Catholic priest, Luis Padillo, would walk the streets, even through sniper fire, offering last rites to the fighters. Besides priest’s bravery, he also knows the enemy will think a lot before shooting him (just imagine the propaganda) and the enemy soldiers are catholic and would refuse that order."

1962, El Porteñazo rebellion in Puerto Cabello, Venezuela. A group of soldiers rebelled against the government, the rebellion was put down in a few days with 400 dead and 700 injured. The soldier and many others were hit by sniper fire, the priest was walking through the gunfire to deliver last rites. The photo won World Press Photo of the Year for 1962. When you want to show how small we are to the universe, you show people what they haven't seen, a photo from the moon. The world knows what the sky looks like, we want new things, photos that shock us. We may seem big to ourselves, but until we saw how far we seemed from our moon, that was when we realized how little we mean to the universe. They get credited for taking "crappy" photos not because they're simply space-men with fancy cameras. They get credits for the photos because they go where most men ever even Dream to go. They take the adventure to the stars. Like when Spirit & Opportunity took the oddly made panoramas of Mars years ago, we weren't amazed by the advancement of photography, we were fucking amazed by seeing a new world from the perspective of 'someone' who was there. We don't take photos just cause they're pretty anon, we take them to amaze. For the Passion and Intensity.

Not OP but here is a caption:

Frenchman Marc Riboud captured one of the most well-known anti-war images in 1967. Jan Rose Kasmir confronts National Guard troops outside the Pentagon during a protest march. The photo helped turn public opinion against the war. "She was just talking, trying to catch the eye of the soldiers, maybe try to have a dialogue with them" recalled Riboud in the April 2004 Smithsonian magazine, "I had the feeling the soldiers were more afraid of her than she was of the bayonets."

Exactly, I was thinking about this last week. I remember looking at a book filled with these pictures when I was a kid, it was a really trippy experience and gave me the "How blessed is life!" feeling.
It was a bit weird for me at the age of 5 how they would get inside the womb to shoot this but that's where I left it.
Then last week it dawned on me.. Outstanding photos, but yeah, these are a bunch of corpses.

Not particularly powerful, but Richard Mosse's photo series on the Congo is one of my favorite.

I absolutely hate bullshit like this. Now that I've seen protesters with my own eyes. They're fucking violent assholes, and then in the middle of the violence when they know a camera is pointed at them, they'll try to pull some shit like this.

They aren't heros, they aren't saviors of peace. They're fucking hippies pushing a political agenda

>having a political agenda is BAD and probably COMMUNIST
>i am an HONEST TO GOD citizen and TOTALLY NEUTRAL
>being MODERATE is best
>critisizing the decisions of authorities is NOT moderate
Nice mindset.

I absolutely hate bullshit like this. Now that I've seen national guardsmen with my own eyes. They're fucking violent assholes, and then in the middle of the violence when they know a camera is pointed at them, they'll try to pull some shit like this.

They aren't heros, they aren't protectors of peace. They're fucking thugs pushing a political agenda
