Unrelated question, but how do you like the 50mm S? The only lens I have right now is the 80mm PS and I want something wide, the 50 S seems appealing because it's cheaper than the PS and has the same 67mm filter size. Anything I should know about it? I know it has more vignetting than the PS because of the smaller filter size, but I don't think I'll mind.

I like it a lot. I've never experienced vignetting on it and have shot it at f3.5 a fair bit. It can flare a bit shooting into direct sunlight but otherwise it's a great lens. Pic related

My advice is that you're trying a bit too hard to include a lot of things at once. I had no clear idea of what I was supposed to look at and why
The first thing I noticed was the railroad tracks but since there's pretty much complete black aside from the tracks my eye was then drawn to the bright mountains at the top left of the frame
Eyes are usually drawn to the brightest part of the frame and there's so much empty blackness in the frame I'm drawn to the top
I didn't even notice the car or the E until I leaned in closer. I'd suggest you try to pick one thing that you want to show instead of trying to show everything at once as it just ends up with everything feeling very cluttered and confusing

Culturally Kyushu is definitely more individualistic, kinder, and more outgoing, especially in the rural areas, and it really shows when interacting with the people. Up in Honshu the culture is so much more generic, and the behavior of the average person is literally indistinguishable from autism. The social awkwardness is unbearable and people are fucking jerks. Also the whole age=seniority thing is so much stronger up here. My girlfriend is Japanese and teaches at a private school, and the older teachers bully the younger teachers every single day to build up their egos. I see it a lot in my schools too.
Also, In Kyushu I never got told by the real estate companies that I needed specific, special permission from the building owner to make sure they would allow a foreigner moving in.
Source: I've lived in Fukuoka, Nagasaki, traveled all over Kyushu, and now living in Gifu for the past 3 years here on Honshu.
Moving back to the US next year, though. Other than the postal service I honestly don't think I'll miss much at all about living here.
