It's an HDR experiment, because I'm only just know learning to use the software "darktable". It can't align shapes, so even the slightest misalignement (which my camera ALWAYS has when autobracketing, even on a tripod) and the resulting HDR is also always totally yellowed up, so sperating greens becomes extremely hard. Learning to use "global tonemap" because I heard it's made for HDR stuff. Still glad for any pointers.
Also, the artifacts are just floating stuff (extra many because of auto-bracketing)

I would like this one a lot of if you had gotten focus. Seems like an emotional moment that you could have captured well but didn't technically execute.
Now. I'm no stickler Ken Rockwell type, but there is a point where you need to expose so at least you can see something and when you are isolating a subject it is probably best to get the focus a lot better than you did with the last pic.

If you can, try doing a few test shots in each area you shoot and look at the histogram to see if your exposure is okay. A screen might lie to you, but a histogram never will. If you don't know how to read one, just google it. It's super simple

this is good but use a long exposure and/or wider aperture next time, 1/200 with f/8 is not enough light for an architecture shot with nothing in view within 100 yards, and it shows, too much grain. Use your lowest ISO, your widest aperture, then set the shutter speed to whatever gives you the right amount of light. Thanks, it consists of 2 exposures on Kodak Colorplus 200. The first one is at f/11 (1/30s as I wanted the movement of the wind to be visible in the crops) and focussed on the foreground, the second one is f/5.6 and focussed on infinity.
When I saw both I wanted the sharp foreground and sharp background so I merged them.

It won't make your shot become suddenly good, but you could close in on your subject, which right now is a bit mall in the picture. You'd mostly have to crop out the bottom (lots of useless vegetation), most of the stuff right of the rightmost tree trunk (it looks nice but gets in the way of having a focused composition) and perhaps cropping halfway through the leftmost tree trunk, perhaps leaving just enough that it serves as a border.
It's tempting to think that all parts of a picture are good and necessary but cropping out the less essential parts can really go a long way.

I also need to figure out what's up with exporting files from this camera, I notice that areas with a lot of detail tend to get "murky" when put into final jpegs. His face is tack sharp at 100% in lightroom but almost looks like I missed focus here.

I'm going to break from the trend and say that I think the aperture choice here was pretty good. The subject is sufficiently isolated and "pops" well enough, while we can see enough background that we get some context. Super smooth bokeh might have been pretty, but I actually feel like this makes for a better overall photo.

You don't need an expensive lens, just the one with the right rendering qualities, but this is a subjective thing and not measured, so you just have to look for similar images and see what lens they were shot with, then get the same one.
Seeing as you're using f/8 in that shot, the bokeh could only be so creamy no matter how you cut it, but one trick I've learned, if shooting from a tripod, is to quickly take a second shot at a wider aperture (compensating with shutter speed), and then blend the two images in post, adding in the blur from one shot over the sharper image of the other,

the thing about bokeh is that it's a convolution with a sharp circle, so even though it blurs things it gives you a sharp kind of blur. >>2853125's suggestion of combining two different sized bokeh helps you get smoother. I don't know if it exists but another way would be to have a lens filter that would be dark (like a ND filter) on the edges and progressively clearer towards the centre.
