Pic related, the guy just holds the microphone, he creates nothing, just records. He is not an artist.

Same for photographers, you don't create anything, you just know how to operate a recording device.

Guy holds the mic records sound waves. Not an artist.

Guy holds the camera, press the shutter and records light photos. Not an artist.

When will you take the red pill?

field recording guys are def artists.

Portrait and landscape photographers simply record what's in front of them, they're not artists.

Grim faced and forbidding
Their faces closed tight
An angular mass of New Yorkers
Pacing in rhythm
Race the oncoming night
They chase through the streets of Manhattan
Head first humanity
Pause at a light
Then flow through the streets of the city

They seem oblivious
To a soft spring rain
Like an English rain
So light, yet endless
From a leaden sky

The buildings are lost
In their limitless rise
My feet catch the pulse
And the purposeful stride

I feel the sense of possibilities
I feel the wrench of hard realities
The focus is sharp in the city

Wide angle watcher
On life's ancient tales
Steeped in the history of London

Green and grey washes
In a wispy white veil
Mist in the streets of Westminster
Wistful and weathered
The pride still prevails
Alive in the streets of the city

Are they oblivious
To this quality?
A quality
Of light unique to
Every city's streets

Pavements may teem
With intense energy
But the city is calm
In this violent sea

I don't consider myself an artist, but there's way more to photography, at least for the things I shoot, than simply holding the camera and pressing the shutter. 90% of good photography is about being a producer and director and not so much about the actual camera manipulation.

For me, that revolves around planning a shoot, building a lighting setup, and directing a "model," and then processing it after the fact.

For "art" photographers, their photography consists as much of creating the subject they'll be photographing as it does actually taking pictures of it.

What if the guy holds the mic to sounds he orchestrated, or anticipated in an unpredictable way, then assembles them and edits them in his workshop to create something unique?
My point is you're a faggot and your logic is dumb.

>a composer isn't an artist, he just knows how to write black dots on paper sheets

Are you retarded? Mics and cameras are just recording devices. Most of the job is done by the device. The operator has to just press one button to work, rec or shutter button, this doesn't apply to any of the things you mentioned.
>>
>>2845533
>Mics and cameras are just recording devices.
So are sheets and canvas.
>>
>>2844143

>name dropping

appeal to authority is definitely the mark of somebody with a bachelor of 'arts'
>>
For what it's worth, there's actually a lot more to being a boom op than just holding the mic. You wear a mixer and have to constantly control levels, gain, cutoffs, etc. I have a family friend who was a boom op for many years and showed me the ropes, and it's surprisingly tricky.
>>
>>2843998

An artist communicates an idea or notion; he or she has a purpose for showing their work of art, no matter the medium he or she chooses to do so.

If he or she doesn't have an intent or purpose, no matter what it is, it isn't art. Otherwise, it is, regardless of its worth.

Also, fuck you.
>>
>>2845685
>If he or she doesn't have an intent or purpose

define intent and purpose
>>
OP is right photography is not art, photography is something even bigger than art.
When I do documentary photography about anyone I capture them and labeling that as an art would downplay the people I photograph.
>>
>>2845687

Intent: A goal for the work; an effect the artist hopes it'll achieve, no matter how grand or minor.

Purpose: A reason for the art work's existence, usually tied to its intent, but not as rigidly determined. "Because I want to, fuck you" suffices.
>>
>>2845689
>A goal for the work; an effect the artist hopes it'll achieve, no matter how grand or minor.

>Purpose: A reason for the art work's existence

so when i tie my shoelaces i have an intent and also purpose therefore it is art?
>>

4chan-level reasoning right here, folks. It doesn't get much better than this.

>make up definition

>HURR FOURCHUN DURR
>>
>Same for photographers, you don't create anything, you just know how to operate a recording device.

See that is what clueless people think but a camera of any kind distorts and captures a fabricated version of a captured reality.

There are more potential lies than truths in any photograph and it's up to the photographer to decide what lies and truths they want to show the viewer.
>>
>>2845702

That's very deep.

>Are you retarded? Mics and cameras are just recording devices. Most of the job is done by the device. The operator has to just press one button to work, rec or shutter button, this doesn't apply to any of the things you mentioned.

if it's that easy then post a picture you've taken, faggot.
post one, so we can all laugh at how shitty you are are just pushing a button lmao whore
>>
>>2845708

so you are saying the more 'truer' a camera system is able to capture a scene, the less lies and therefore less art photography is?

So lomography is the ultimate photographic art?
>>
>>2845710
>>2845710

>Implying anybody has to prove herself to a dog like you
>>
>>2845711
Where the fuck did you get that from, I'm saying the photographer can decide how much of a truth or lie they want to present in an image. That's all dependant on the skill of the photographer, the system itself has nothing to do with it
>>
>>2845717

if the systems is perfect, then there is no room for lies.

so an idealised perfect camera system is incapable of making arts. but if you spit on the front element to fuck it up a bit suddenly art?
>>
>>2845722
The medium isn't perfect it is unbiased. The bias comes in to play when a human gets involved.

>an idealised perfect camera system is incapable of making arts
a camera sitting on its own somewhere with no human controlling it cannot make art no

> but if you spit on the front element to fuck it up a bit suddenly art?
No, if someone comes along and captures something, that can be art. The person controlling the camera decides what to create, the camera is unbiased but the photographer is not. There is no "perfect system" for capturing reality. Cameras and the photographers that use them skew things either intentionally or not but it's in their intentions that something artistic can be formed.

If you're really interested in this then read camera lucida or susan sontag on photography. They touch on this subject and it's important to have some grounding in it before trying to appreciate modern photography

The actual act of recording the light isn't art. Its the content thats important. Art is there to express feelings or to create a feeling inside of you.

drawing a painting isnt art its about the content. Now we can ask ourself how the crafting and content are connected. And how it can enhance art.

as oppose to modern draw fags who assimilate dozens of reference material and "draw" a picture where they have to continuously whore themselves out on DA or end up drawing dicks on girls for patreon?

or graphic design majors who's portfolio's stop when they finish their worthless degree and can't wonder why no one will hire them to place free fonts together?

Not sure if for srsly.
Assuming you are serious... Photography is considered art, because there are literally thousands of possible combinations that will get the same exposure, so it is up to the photographer to make the creative decission of how to expose the image. That's just exposure. There is also composition, framing, and editing that can be done afterwards. Photos make people feel something. That makes it art.
