My very first time working with a model. I wanted to start putting humans into my landscapes and i had never worked with a model before.
These are all just test shots, more for composition, action and processing. So clothing /poses and expressions weren't my #1 priority

i dont want to get closer with my GR, im only using it at the moment because im waiting for my D610 to come in the mail, which i plan to use when me and her actually do shots.
I do plan to still use wide angle shots though, but yeah ill definitly have to pull her in much closer

Have you tried cropping your photos? If you crop to 1MP which is fine for /p/ and the web, the perspective will be similar to a 100mm lens.

if you want a small model surrounded by big landscape you need to have a vantage point, or a vertical landscape as background ie. wall or rock, of water, etc.

thats solid advice, ive been trying to get around how to position people who are father away.
Im not saying im having the model be a mile away in every shot, shell have outfits ready for closeups when we do the actual shoot.

Pic good. Model pose eh, doesn't match with rest of image. The landscape makes me feel lonely and vulnerable. Model is conveying opposite emotions. It might work, but it doesn't for me in this case. Composition a bit boring.

Thanks! since it was a test shoot, i wasnt necessarily trying to evoke feeling, so i was pretty surprised when you mentioned that.
Only other pictures i have of that dead tree is pic related, and another ill post
i mainly avoided close ups because since it was a test shoot, she wasnt wearing any outfits that would fit the scene, just some cheap sunglasses and a hoodie.

This pic with previous perspective and no smile would have worked well IMO. All the pics work better with a model though. Landscapes have to really be interesting like pic related to grab my interest. Otherwise they're pretty boring without a subject. As far as the emotion goes, that's just the way I usually decide what i like and what I don't. Although there's a time and place for pure aesthetic. For example. Pic related is great because it was taken from indoors on a rainy day. Cars are parked suggesting everyone is home in their warm snug houses enjoy a cup of tea. It's something you don't see but feel. The power lines add to the aesthetic though. To the "feel" too i guess. Every body inside is probably either watching TV or on the computer. idk, I'm no good so take my opinion for a grain of salt, if anything take it as a new perspective to look at pics.

No, there's something wrong with wanting to shoot it because it's blue unless you actually apply that to your subject accordingly, otherwise it's just random color.

thanks for that, yeah since she didnt have an outfit for the shoot (it was just a test one after all) all i could really do was use her all black clothing to just pop against the landscape, when she has the proper set up on, im using as much of her in my photos as i can get

Don't ever do this processing again. It seems cool to you now because you're new, and you've seen it before and liked it, but it's terrible, and distracting. Also, your scene is confusing, poorly framed, and not appealing.

Just a girl looking at me. So what? Also her skin is a strange gray pink, and lacks detail. Her pupils are also huge with make us think she's on drugs. In reality, it's just because you had her in a dark room other than the flash you were using. Modeling lights on real flashes will do nicely to keep pupils small, but until you work your way up to them, you may consider using lamps or something to keep light on her face.
Remember, photos need a "hook" for your viewer to care about. Something interesting. Just "photos of a girl" will do it for 14 year olds with no internet connection, but as photographers, we look for more.

As long as you don't fill the entire frame with her head or have her at an extreme edge, 28mm looks just fine. You really need to get closer.
Since you are using the R I C O H G R, consider taking advantage of the leaf shutter. An external, preferably remote, flash + punching ambient down a couple stops is probably the easiest way to get a "pro" looking shot.

This one is my favourite of the bunch. But try to use a lower aperture to blow the background out a little more since it's quite distracting. Also leave a bit more space at the top, bottom and right side for her hands and elbow.
