stop buying 20 year old plastic garbage cams?

put new battery in?

>mju ii
You must be new.
>>2840032
Just bought one of these, appears to be brand new. I was excited by thinking it would be like a waterproof Oly XA but wow it's loud and the lens motion is crazy. Also don't get why it focuses after you press the shutter.
>>2840032
Not new at all.
I just have a slightly more realistic view on the value of my 20yo plastic garbage cams than some other people on this board.

Well, if pic related, you didnt buy the right one.
>>2840039
They are not as great as some people make them out to be. Having said that, I have two of them.
not about the mju, but I just bought a GR1 for super cheap because the shutter is stuck. I've heard it's a pretty classic problem with these, anybody know if it needs a new shutter or just to be fixed or? If it's fucked I don't really care, got it for nothing and it can always be a parts camera.
How about some mjuii snapshits in this thread?

I'm sure I'll get flak for this, but I just don't get the allure of these cameras. They seem to me like they combine all of the worst things about film with the worst things about digital cameras. I'm far from an anti-film guy, but I mostly shoot 120 and when I shoot 35 it's because I enjoy the tactile process of working with an all-manual brass brick of a camera.
A few years back I'd understand stuff like the Mju because it packs a decent 2.8 lens and "full frame" into a small body, but nowadays you can get APS-C compacts that offer better glass, similar DoF control, and much better low-light ability for the cost of a year worth of film+dev.
>>2840018
Op here. The LCD indicates that the battery is full.
Though it has sit on my Mju for over a year without use.
CR123As are pretty expensive so I don't want to buy one if the camera is just broken.
>>2840486
The allure is just that. You get a decent lens in a pocketable body and film "feel" to the photos. It's fully auto so you can spend your time worrying about composition instead of settings. And it costs $10.
>>2840221
>Peron And Evita, are you from Argentina?
>>2840486
But you won't get the beautiful highlight roll off of film and, apart from maybe the GR and Coolpix A, APS-C compacts aren't really compact or light.
It won't be great in low light, but a wide 2.8 lens with 400+ speed film and no mirror slap or shutter shock issues + flash if needed ain't bad.
If anything, it's harder to see the allure of an all-manual brass brick camera versus a pocketable lightweight autofocus, autowinding, autoexposure, water resistant camera like the Mju.
>>2840506
CR123As are cheap if you buy them online. Drugstores put crazy high markups on them.
>>2840486
>it's because I enjoy
Got your answer right there.
>>2841151
this
>>2840486
These all auto Oly compacts make a pretty good case for themselves most of the time; in that there are few instances where one is likely to get in the way of taking photos.
When you combine that with the fact that the lense is as good as an SLR's (ish), they're ideal for a lot of situations.
>>2841037
nope.
>>2840576
Working Mju II can cost up to 150$. Ofcourse you can get lucky and find some on garage sales. I found a total of 4 in thrift shops and 2/4 are fully functional. The other two are broken just like op's.
It has a very useful spot program people may not know about.
The day someone makes a digital full frame camera even as small as the mju 1 i'll be happy.

happened to me - bought a new one (actually got it replaced for free)
I use it mine for times when I don't care if my camera breaks or gets fucked up. If I want to shoot serious stuff I'll use my medium format gear. My Stylus Epic is for those times I just want to have a phone in my pocket that shoots film.
Technically most smartphones will outperform a MJU but that's not the point.

All of those were shot in extremely low light so I imagine the lens was wide open which the camera tries to avoid at all costs.
Do you have any examples where you're pretty sure the camera would have had the aperture wide open?

Yeah I think it has to do with how the MJU avoids opening up the aperture until it absolutely has to.

Just got a stylus epic zoom 80
Is it still worth enough to use it or should I just unload it and wait until I find one of the fixed length ones
everyone fapping to MJU II for street - i dont know why. for street shots camera must have: manual focus lens (when you shot at f16 you dont need to focus) and non-auto film winder (for silent). both of these needs cant afford MJU. its good for family photos.
>>2843939
>for street shots camera must have: manual focus lens
lmao and you say you know street? gtfo of here.
>>2843939
>for street shots camera must have: manual focus lens
Why?
>>2843981
no shutter lag compared to autofocus. even the fastest AF is slower than having focus/exposure preset. you're basically just tripping the shutter.
>>2843939
>manual focus lens
No...
>and non-auto film winder (for silent)
WTF. You don't NEED it to be silent. Not everyone is afraid of getting someones attention...
sell it to me
>>2844067
>no shutter lag compared to autofocus.
>shutter lag
>af
lmaooooo
>>2844067
But you can have the focus/exposure preset on a camera that has AF
>>2839614
Did anyone find a solution to this problem?

There is spot metering and ae lock on the mju ii
