My Sony 90mm SEL90M28G FE was in my camera bag when it took a tumble from approximately a 1 ft height. It wasn't severe. It fell from my center arm rest in my car to the floor of the backseat, right on top of the raised middle portion where the drivetrain is. So it's approximately a 1ft fall, and it was in the padded camera bag with other gear.

Ever since, the lens auto-focus motor is constantly churning away when I am on the AF setting. Even when its focused, the motor just keeps making noise and it's making video recording a huge fucking pain in the ass (not using external mic) since there is this bullshit sound in the background now.

If I use manual focus, the sound isn't there.

I know this isn't normal because the lens wasn't doing it when I first got it. All of a sudden it is. And the return period literally expired 2 days ago.

What do I do? Is this piece of shit actually broken already?

If the return policy expired 2 days ago. Call them up and see if they'll still take it, you never know. Or if you could come up with some lie as to how you tried to contact them but couldn't for some reason.

Other than that, you could always try to manually pull focus on video. I do a lot of video, and I would never trust auto focus on the subject. Seriously, just work on your focus pulling, it's a skill you need to have

>$1000 lens breaks
>screw it, you should be using manual focus anyways

>implying there arent 1k lenses with manual focus

He's right though. Manual focus for video is pretty much necessary.
>>
>>2836866
I'm just going out on a limb and assuming he has an A7 series or a6xxx camera, those cameras have focus peaking for their manual mode, so you can manually focus just as fast as auto focus. But for video, using autofocus is a joke in most cases.

Honestly the only cases I can think of to use auto focus is if the camera is on a glidecam, AND the camera has focus tracking, or if you're doing vlogs and just pointing the camera at yourself. Any serious video work will require pulling focus. I've got some $2,000+ lenses that I have never used the autofocus on one single time, I just don't need to use it.

And Because its a 90mm I'm going to assume he's doing neither glidecams or self shot vlogs.

The warranty hasn't expired though has it, you fucking dildo

ah yes, a model number that rolls right off the tongue

while you're here.. how is the lens for macro shots? i've been thinking of buying it
>>
>>2836802
send it for warranty.
don't say you dropped it.
delete this thread in case they check.

>check 4chan, about 35 photographers in the world go to that board and there's a small chance one of them might own one.. it could be him
>on it
>>
>>2837116
lenses leaving the factory are checked to spec. and once the lens is disassembled it's going to be obvious that it's been dropped. maybe sony will do the favour of fixing it free of charge, maybe they'll overcharge the shit out of OP
>>
>>2837093
It depends on the size of what you're shooting. It's terrible for what I was trying which is soda cans. I ended up just using a 16-35 for my soda can macros and using the 90 for telescope outdoor shots, they all come out great
>>
>>2837144
>what the fuck did I just read
>>
>>2837144
Soda cans?? OP, I'm kinda curious, can you send a link to one of your soda can videos?

Why would you use a 16-35 instead of the 90mm? That 90 is supposed to be a fantastic lens

Now I have seen it all.

They sure are
>and once the lens is disassembled it's going to be obvious that it's been dropped
>starting a sentence with "and"
>not using the shift key to start your sentence with "and"
And! It's not like there are stages between the factory and shipping. Not all problems show up immediately and if you never really used the lens much it could suddenly develop an issue.

Okay Anon, you must be a big guy
>>
>>2837434
Lets see some of the product shots then. I can't imagine this guy actually decided a 90mm was bad for product photography and when for a wide angle zoom instead
>>
>>2837263
It's too much focus concentrated in one region. I can't get the whole can in focus, just certain parts
>>
>>2837543
I see. Stupid question, but you've tried stopping the aperture down to f22?

Who am I quoting?

claim you didnt unbox the lens until recently and didnt discover the issue until now

say it was broken out of the box/in mail/in transit after purchase
>>
>>2839519
Why do you bullshit people? You know that that isn't what happened.
>>
>>2836802
Say you were on a no outside contact free mission trip for a few weeks when your camera broke make sure it's some big religious group and if they question you seem a little offened the last thing they want to do is offend some bat shit crazy religious group
