Nice. I still haven't checked that part of town out, when I went to Osaka I spent most of my time around my friend's place in Umeda. I'll have to go there next time I'm in Japan and bring some gear, I love the Blade Runner/GITS look of it.

with very low standards, that's you best/only decent shot. some leading lines, someone in we can wonder what she's looking at.
photographically, those are the overly typical "I spent one week in japan" tourist shots. At least I hope you had fun there~
Somewhere in Nishinoyima. (between Osaka and Kobe)

ya a lot of "I saw this" pics, noothing to really critique
OP start making ideas of photos before you take the shot, instead of just being a tourist. A picture should have a point or be interesting
Everytime IK see /p/ grade flower shot it makes me want to introduce my frontal lobe to the business end of a train

or in other words, buy a tripod
Dumping a few pics I made over last weeks. Some are heavily modified for effects.

Yes I like photographing statues. They don't move, lend themselves to good angles and do well with contrasts.

What the fuck.
>>2838051
Local Contrast with negative Detail-value, overblown Highlight-Shadows corrections and wavelets denoise.
Also a bunch of other stuff. I just like messing around with sliders and tried to make a sort of "enchanted-forest" theme
>>2838051
Here's a different version with overall weaker effects.

>tried to make a sort of "enchanted-forest" theme
You missed.
This comes from knowing what you want, but not knowing how to get there. It's good that you tried, but you should keep working on figuring out how to apply your tools to achieve your goals. For instance, why would an enchanted forest be blurry? Glowing highlights may make a scene seem soft, but you didn't make your highlights glow, you made them radioactive and clipped.
I see this scene and it makes me think of the way that a forest would look lit by a nearby nuclear explosion, through eyes that are in the early stages of being melted.
And remember, you can't change the light in post.
>>2835847
Try to get some sky into the picture
>>2838117
I tried again with this >>2838097 one, adding a little bit of bloom.
I guess what the shot actually lacks is a true brightspot, rather than a lighter area.
I guess I'd have to work with masks to properly conmvey this, but I hate masks.
For me, that's where "post processing" turns into image manipulation

No problem! Soft glowing directional light on the scene will have certain consequences in the image. Shadows will fall a certain way, in a certain direction, and have a certain amount of falloff and haziness.
Hard powerful light will throw hard shadows with clear edges. There will be dramatic and fast transitions from "lit directly by the light source" and "shadow".
IN post, you can brighten certain areas, or dim other areas, but you won't be able to alter the shape and drama of the shadow transition. You can fill in shadows from hard light to make them less dark, but the shadow edge will always be a hard edge, showing a hard light source.
If you work too hard to try to take one style of light to another in post, the viewer will get a red flag in their mind, subconsciously, that the scene looks wrong. One of the major evolutionary and instinctive things that we just "get" is how light works. Knowing the way that shadows and light should interact is how people navigate their entire world, so the second you mess with it and suggest a "light scape" that isn't real or possible, your visual center just goes "nope!"

Thank you very much!!
