It's the gear and the compositon. Notice the chain-link fencing gives a really clear gradient from sharp to blurry. It's shot at a wide aperture to give shallow DoF.

Imma go with f2.8 on APSC - this didn't need some crazy wide aperture on FF.
Also afternoon light from the side will enhance subject separation & warmth. I doubt much pp was required, just a touch of contrast.
